Flyers and their colour or lack of

Basically, I’m trying to talk myself into going full colour so it’s more fun to design. my quote was $800 for 15k flyers, that’s just for printing. and the quote is a couple years old.

Does anyone know for sure that full colour is worth the extra money compared to 1 or 2 colours?

I recently read that 1 colour on coloured paper is just as effective and much less expensive (I’m not sure about that) then 2 colour on white paper. I want that kind of info but with full colour.

I can’t find any good info even on google.

GotPrint my man. best prices I have found out there.

I did a 8.5x11 full color both sides 100lb paper for 15,000 = $650.

And I find that WHITE SPACE = Differentiation from other advertisments - especially in the mail.

Look through your junk mail and see how much is WHITE SPACED and clean cut. less than 1%.

Like all those online print shops they don’t give the 20lb or 24lb paper option. I use 67lb paper when I make my own postcards, 100lb card stock, if that’s what they’re talking about is a waste for a flyer. PLus I live in Canada. I wonder how much the brokerage fees would be… we’re screwed up here when it comes to printing. I know vista.print is Canada and Usa but they also don’t have the 20lb paper option.

For $650 I’d jump on it but my recent wfp purchase reminded me that free trade is BS. Shipping and brokerage fees are a killer.

EDIT: I just re-read your post… Full Colour both sides… that’s an impressive price. My quote was for one side on 20lb paper.

EDIT 2 : I ordered a sample kit. 10,000 flyers, full colour both sides (one side for windows the other for power washing) done deal. Thanks. That about what I pay for 2 colour on one side up here in Canada.

Im going to give you one hell of a hook up…You ready…You cant tell NOBODY…Okay here you go…

Full Color Glossy Business Card, Postcard, Flyer, Brochure, & Catalog Online Print Service - GotPrint

Hey I did learn one thing from the 1st link…

“Prices shown are for 100 LB. Gloss Book with Aqueous Coating Stock. Similar to high-end magazine cover stock. VERY nice!!!”
I always assumed they were talking about 100lb card stock but they are refering to glossy paper that is about 20lb. Confusing to me but now I know.

WOW, that site does have pretty good prices, 10,000 post cards, for $350.

The question was about results – color vs. B&W on colored paper – not print prices.

…Basically, I’m trying to talk myself into going full colour so it’s more fun to design. my quote was $800 for 15k flyers, that’s just for printing. and the quote is a couple years old.

.

Larry’s actually right but thanks for the links. I came across one of their pages with window cleaning and power washing designs… bookmarked for future reference.

EDIT: LOL, that was quick:D

Would you Mind sharing the link with us?

I go through got print for my post cards i use these because they are cheaper and i design them myself i also get my business cards through them and i am very impressed with the quality in their product.

Here you go

btw, got print has nice prices but wanted $350 for shipping to Canada… that’s almost how much the 10,000 flyers cost :frowning:

I know most of the companies on that page, some very well.
Just know that this guy went AWOL for months and is just recently back in service. Supposedly everything is cool now, but he left some people seriously stranded before.

Well it looks like I answered my own question via google. I don’t actually know if it’s true but I like what this little article says so I thought I would share it.

Flyers are an essential part of small business development within your local community. Print advertising is a time-tested method and cost-effective method of advertising that has the power to generate immediate responses and instant increases in sales. Pizza menus, furniture store flyers, landscaping flyers, chiropractic newspaper inserts, automotive sales flyers, electronics store circulars, and countless other types of print advertisement are viewed by millions of people each year. More importantly, full color flyers continuously manipulate our buying decisions and opinions. 10 flyer printing tips that will help you optimize your flyers:

  1. Hire a professional designer. If you don’t have a design background do not try to design a full color advertisement. Instead, gather ideas and brainstorm for the designer so that you ideas will translate into their flyer design.
  2. Choose a trusted printer that has a great customer service team. Their experience and attention to detail can be a lifesaver when printing thousands of flyers at once.
    3. Always print in full-color. According to the Newspaper Association of America, color ads score sixty-two (62%) percent higher than black-and-white ads.
    4. Always print on glossy paper. Flyers must stand out and look great. Go glossy!
  3. Print in bulk. If you are going to need 50,000 flyers printed over the course of a year - print them all at once. Bulk orders offer huge savings with most printers.
  4. Order online. Find a printer with a great website that allows you to manage your order online. This way you can be sure that the correct files are uploaded, etc.
  5. Incorporate tracking information. By including a coupon or a special offer that correlates only to one flyer, you will be able to measure results. You can also assign a specific phone number to a flyer campaign as well. You need to know whether you are spending advertising dollars effectively or simply wasting money.

Follow these 7 easy tips and you should notice a dramatic increase in response to your next flyer advertising campaign. The reason for us to advertise is not to ‘have fun designing’, it’s to get leads or sales.

My best flyer was 2 color but I am all for full color. I used to like 2 color because of
my lack of design know-how, now I hire designers

Colors add vibrancy and as long as the message and the offer are not buried in a
puke of images, full color is great.

Most times people get carried away with design and ruin the ads potential.

I would pay more for full color

My brother recently had a thing designed and they did everything wrong…company title at the top in big bold letters like a business card, they had spring time pictures but this was for fall clean up. I’m WAY better then that guy imo, lol. Even after they revised it a few times it wasn’t looking great. They are advertising aeration but they have a pic of a guy mowing a lawn… I would have helped them but for me I always have to relearn my programs and it just takes me forever.

Besides, it turns out I’ve been keeping a “Swipe file” (see I’ve been reading LOL) and didn’t even know what it was called.

But the full colour on glossy worries me a bit. They have “bleed” and I’ll have to figure that out but the print shop is a thousand miles away so give and take… well there just won’t be any. I was going to use your advice and put before after pics on it…I’ve seen that quite a bit with fert companys.

But Vistaprint, they do have a decent amount of templates. Back grounds with a few images and there is a blueish one with a squeegee… hmmm… that would solve the edge problem.

**hey Paul, I know you’re supposed to NOT dilute the message by cramming it full of crap, and I’m infamous for doing just that, once I start tinkering I can’t seem to stop, but what about one side for windows, the other side for power washing or maybe eave cleaning or … blank? I’m not sure if the 2nd side should be more of the same message or a completely different one, or blank I guess.

and can I use that headline… Are dirty windows making you look bad? Not sure if I’ll use it but I have it in mind.

I’ll show you one of my fliers where I went crazy putting on everything I could think of, LOL. I put out 30,000 of these and of course I designed it. I was so proud but it tanked. I got about the same amount of work as I do with my regular 10,000 flyer drop.

Gotprint has low low prices as well, and I would order from them except I have to pay $350 for shipping because I’m in canada . If I order from Vistaprint… actually it works out to the about the same. 10,000, full colour both sides plus shipping is $620 plus some tax, say $700.

At got print it’s $400 for the flyers, $340 for shipping and who knows how much in brokerage. I actually have a dream of have my own off set printing press.

EDIT: LOL, I just checked your place, it’s $680 for 10’000, full colour both sides on glossy paper. Vista print is $509 and Gotprint is about $430 if memory serves.

EDIT 2 : I got my prices drastically wrong. In Canada Vista print is $509 + $111 for shipping for 5000 flyers (full colour both sides) 10,000 flyers is $914 + $230 for shipping man we’re screwed in this country.

Crap, I think I will order from the states
