I’ve used a gorilla and I own the Werner knockoff. The Werner is by far more stable. Both in feel and the way the joints lock. I weigh 270 and have used the Werner at full extension many times over the last 4 years. It has been on top of my van exposed to the elements and it shows no signs of packing it in any time soon. It cost me half what a LG would. You can get one at Lowe’s.
I have used a 2003 Toyota Corolla for six years, with a fold up ladder that fits into the trunk when the seats are folded down. I haven’t run into a job yet that needed more than I can carry.
i went to lowes and looked at/picked up that werner 22 ur speaking of tony and that thing weighs a freaking ton!! what about ladder horns do u just extend it out then put the ladder horn on? And which horns do u use cuz ive only came across bolt on ones that would take all day to put on and off each job…
It ain’t light that’s for sure but it keeps me in shape (round).
Check on getting this - Little Giant 2 Accessory Bundle | Wall Standoff and Leg Leveler
I’ve been using the 18’ LG ladder for almost 15 years on commerical and redsidential work. It fits great in the back of most 5 door hatchback cars or is short enough to put on the top with a rack. I can do 90% of my work with this ladder. What I may do differently is use a Werner adjustable stand off that makes this ladder very stable … to the point I dont need leg levelers … not recommended but doable. Using the standoffs also gives a large work area thus less ladder moves. I could not see cleaning windows without this. Very easy to bring indoors, the weight issue is more just getting used to it.
Yes, the articulating ladders are a bit heavy, but not that bad! One of the female members on this forum used to work for me and she could manage it in a pinch. I have 2 LGs and 1 Gorilla. I’ll tell you, the Gorilla isGARBAGE!!! Everything about it is cheaper compared to the Little Giant. Of course, the price is cheaper as expected. I did manage to pick up my 2nd LG at Sam’s Club a few years ago (the M22) for $179. I couldn’t believe it! I’ve never used Werners but if their foldups are like their extension ladders they must be good.
Kurt, I noticed in your first post that you have an employee using his car? Are you familiar with the possible liabilities and legalities with this?
My first ladder was a Gorilla LG knockoff. Cheap to buy but expensive to use. Guys do yourself a favor and buy a real window cleaners ladder. Sectionals are expensive to buy but cheaper to use. It’s like getting cash back in time and energy saved every day. Sectionals could be the least expensive ladder being sold to window cleaners around the world. My LG knockoff is in the basement covered with dust.
I’ve been doing some research on this. I know that if he gets into an accident the company can be liable. Other than that, feel free to educate me. I obviously made sure he had a valid drivers license and is up to date on his insurance and got copies of both. I figure I’m going to have to take a chance right now because I really don’t have the option to purchase a vehicle for him. I do have liability insurance on him as well.
Sorry for the minor hijack, but I was just wondering guys if this ladder was similar to the LG you guys have in the states: Bailey BXS13 Extendable Step Ladder #FS13205
From what I understand, Bailey is quite a reputable brand and there’s not much different that I can pick out in terms of functionality and looks. Unfortunately, there isn’t anyone in Aus that supplies the LG ladder, and since I’m kinda in the same boat as Kurt, this seems like the most versatile ladder I can get my hands on (gotta fit it in my Mazda 323). Retails for around 220AUD. Or maybe I should grab a 30ft unger pole first…
I find the exact opposite.
BTW, I picked up my first sectional set Thursday at the MWCoA seminar at Supply in Tracy, CA. I brought home three 6-foot pieces inside my Toyota Corolla (there was room for three more, I bet.)
13’ Warners are $69.00 at Lowes.
I have the 17ft version of this ladder. Works great, almost 3 years now. BTW, I’m around 180lbs.
My review:
The Bailey looks similar – adjustable step and converts to an adustable extension. Look also for Werner, Gorilla, and Cosco brands for multi-purpose ladders.
The Unger 30-foot poles (my 5 x 6’ and especially the 3 x 10’) are flexy.
Little Giant stabilizers do not fit on Werner multi-purpose ladders.
Bummer. I figured since the leg leveler works the stabilizer would also.
Something to seriously consider about the Cosco ladder in the video (post 32). The feet look like they are hard plastic. I know for certain that my Gorilla has hard plastic feet. One of my guys years ago had it kick out under him on a wood floor.
The Little Giant has medium to hard rubber feet. Way more traction on any questionable surface. Think about that. I don’t know about other brands.
Save the money on those little fold ups and give a buddy $50.00 to use his truck for the day. Then return the truck with a full tank. A little fold up to hit a 2 level home is going to cost you.
If you get a 1/2 piece section you’ll be a lot happy with your new ladders. A 1/2 piece is only 4 ft tall. It is needed for adjusting the height of the ladder. There is nothing wrong with the LG ladders, lots of guys love them. I think they are heavy, that’s all. Let me know what you think about the sectionals, Larry. Remember there is a technique to using them and an adjustment period.
A Ladder Stopper is essential on “questionable” surfaces.
