I got this great idea to distress my brass squeegee with ammonia vapor and salt. I think it looks pretty cool. Let me know what YOU think.
Did it stain your hands?
That was going to be my question , you beat me to it!
No the color is from a chemical reaction with the brass only, it wonât stain your skin like a dye. Some of the blue comes off as a powder but after a quick rinse itâs fine to touch.
Howâd you did you do it, process?
Soak a couple paper towels in ammonia and line the bottom of a Tupperware. Sprinkle a liberal amount of salt on the ammonia towel bed, then place the parts on the salty ammonia towels. Lid over the Tupperware and let it sit for a while. The brass tarnish color progresses in stages and the blue/turquoise is the last so it can take a few hours of sitting. Then when itâs the color you like, take it out of the box and rinse under a sink then dry and scrape with a #0000 steel wool to smooth out the finish and put a little shine on it without removing the tarnished layer.
Looks like something that needs some brass cleaner and 0000 steel wool.
Seems to be a form of âbluingâ like a rifle barrel, which is a form of rust protection by âpre rustingâ or âcontrolled rustingâ essentially, neat.
Btw what handle is that?
Just a regular ettore brass handle
I personally donât think it looks that attractive but thatâs only my opinion. The concept is cool though.
I like my articles to shine when Iâm on a job. Especially on important commercial work.
If it matches your uniform thatâs another story. I did notice your logo colors sort of match.
Iâm thinking a clearcoat, high gloss finish to make the color really pop. Any automotive or perhaps Michaelâs store. Looks cool.
