Ford Transit Connect --> Towing a WFP System

I recently ordered a Ford Transit Connect for my window company and had a tow package added. It has a towing capacity of 2000 lbs and I’m kicking around the idea of building a small trailer to house a WFP system. Has anybody done a small DIY trailer and have some tips they’re willing to share?

Thank you in advance for any and all advice!

Beautifully simple. Beautiful music too

Humm, I like the connects but for a wfp I’d just throw a 40 gallon tank in there and filler up.

As far as a tow package, maybe a pressure washing system would be better for a trailer.

That’s a nice little setup, thank you for sharing it. I’m hoping to do so custom work to enclose it and protect the insides from the elements, but this is a solid foundation.

The van has a good portion dedicated to our window blinds portion of the company and things are a bit tight. Trying to find alternates to maximize the efficiency of the vehicle and team.

BTW I was born and raised in Albuquerque and graduated from Cibola about 10,000 years ago. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss the food.

Ah, that makes sense. @Pure Water Window Cleaning has a nice set up there.

Austin has a kickin music scene down there. I did some training down there and hit what is it 2nd street? It was a thursday and they had shut down the whole street, it was awesome. Didn’t get a chance to see the bats tho.

Yup, got me some good green chile last year.

I’ve been giving the @Pure Water Window Cleaning systems a look. Still checking around for other options to do a hardcore DIY,

Man Austin is a pretty chill city, I’ve got to admit that I love living here. Most major streets are shut down during the weekend, it’s great to cruise around and go from bar to bar.

As for for Hatch green chile, bro you know us New Mexicans can live without red/green! I had two cases delivered to me and they’re all vacuum packed and ready for the coming year.

I was able to score the following for my initial WFP setup from Ebay for half the price of retail (allegedly new and still in the box):

  • Reach-It Pro 4 w/44 ft reach
  • XT 11’ Extension
  • 3 Brush pack w/parts assortment
  • Heavy duty carbon fiber goose neck set

Found this trailer via a search and liked the look and construction. I was thinking that I could get my welder to construct a top and solid tailgate:

For about 8 years we used a 6x10 box trailer for our WFP gear. However we have drifted back to working out of trucks and van. Purification systems have gotten so much lighter and smaller. We don’t do do residential, but if we did, we would seriously look at a tank setup. The box was nice, as we have to heat it in sub-freezing weather.

The trailer setup (we still have it, but use it mainly for our high rise gear) was great, but as soon as we needed WFP setups in 2 or 3 places at the same time, we just set up the trucks again.

Steve,

Thank you for the input, it’s sincerely appreciated. As I mentioned earlier we’re just moving into the window cleaning side to add another line of revenue. From the research that I’ve done it seems pretty straight forward to build a WFP system that could be portable. I’d have to re-think our current van layout to get it in there, but that is a possibility as well. What I liked about the trailer is that it could be easily positioned at a home or even commercial job fairly easily. The compact size that we’re looking at could be moved by one person and located closer to the work area. Granted you’re probably right and I should really just start with the small mobile setup out of the van.

I just got a 2015 Transit Connect XLT.

Great little whip, but I wouldn’t trust towing anything with it.

I know of one company that has killed three of them trying to pull weight, all three broken rear axles.

Those were the little Transits that are a van mounted on a Ford Focus frame and engine (like mine).

The 250s and 350s are bad ass though.

Chris,

Awesome feedback! I think it’s looking like the whole towing aspect is about to be out the window. We’re just going to have to find a way to get everything to fit in the Transit, or dedicate a truck or van to just window cleaning based service.
