Found fix for numbness and tingling in arm/shoulder/hand

10 weeks ago I managed to damage/pinch a nerve in my neck when swimming and then working out my shoulders the next day, yep, what an idiot… Well I thought it might go away, but after about 3 weeks my thumb was constantly tingling and dead to the touch and my tri-cep was tingling and I would wake up about every other night with a dead hand. To say the least my right side was suffering from the shoulder blade down to my hand and working on it just seemed to aggravate it, no time to heal as spring was upon me. I started to visit a really good chiropractor and after about three weeks of two adjustments a week there was still no change. Visited a sports injury Doc and he pointed me to steroids and eventual exercices. Steroids did not touch it, was supposed to bring down the inflamation.

By now I was panicing, looked like I was going to have to go for the MRI and a steroid shot to the nerve and if that failed, an operation in the off season.

My wife told me of a chiropractor that specialized in “active muscle release”. I was dubious but followed her cue and went. He said it would take about 6 visits at $58 a visit and that he should pretty much have me sorted or, by that stage, no that it was not going to help.

Well after 2 visits I felt a change and by 4 visits I was back to 60% and by the 6th visit I was back to 80%, and I just had a 7th in about a total of 3 weeks and I am back to 90%, just a little tingle here and there, in fact when I use to type on the computer or use the mouse I could only do about 15 seconds and I would have to put my arm back by my side due to the pain and I have not done that once during this message! It is unbelievable how much better I am and how my spirits are lifted by the fact I can now see that my window cleaning life is not near its end.

He is now working on a groin strain I have had for a year and a half that no one else could fix… here’s hoping:rolleyes:

My wife told me of a chiropractor that specialized in “active muscle release”.

… Yep. Some people think Chiropractors are quacks but I swear by them.
I see mine about 2X a year. I know the kind of tingling and eadness
you describe and the chiropractor fixes me right up. First time I ever went 25 or so years ago
I had to be carried in, too much pain in the lower back to walk. But snap, pop, crack and
I walked out.

The tingling did not go away with the regular “snap, pop and crack” adjusting, it was this active release or they call it “flossing”, no adjusting, he just tries to separate the muscle and scar tissue from the nerve, and allow the muscle to slide over the nerve with out getting stuck on it… I am probably slaughtering the real mechanics of it, but any way, it has changed my out look.

I was getting the numbness of Carpal Tunnel during the summer, last year.
It went away up until about a month ago.

No pain. Just ‘pins & needles.’

I think the large amount of gutter cleaning has brought it on (clutching and grabbing.)

This “flossing” sounds interesting…

Mary Jane & whiskey take my tingle away & replaces it with a steady vibration…no doc visits needed

I have a Rolfer (deep form of massage) that I gom to for these sorts of problems. He can seperate the scar tissue from the muscle. I had a bicept tendon that came off the top of my shoulder and was about four inches from its proper location. It took him about 1 1/2 hours to get it back in place and it was painful, but he saved my window and gutter cleaning career.
