Add some methanol or isopropyl alcohol to your cleaning solution. It will keep it from freezing up.
I’ve always used windshield washer fluid.
I used to use that but I hate the cheap soap in it, not to mention the blue dye.
Where do you buy methanol from ?
I get mine 5 gallons at a time from a local race car guy. They run Methanol for fuel. It costs me $3.50 a gallon.
One caution is I would only use it outside as it has a slight fuel smell. For inside freezer doors I’d use the isopropyl alcohol.
I was at one convenience store job and at the last minute the shop owner begged me to do his cooler and freezer doors. Of course when I got to the freezer interiors I was like “so what do I do now, all out of anti-freeze washer fluid”. Well I just scrubbed with my regular solution, pulled out a 6" scraper, cleared off and detailed the edges. Works in a pinch!
Get an oversized piece of cadboard & just wedge it with your knee where the door was in the closed position. Use your regular solution.
I use Methanol. I carry a 5 gallon Jug with me at all times. My jug has a wide mouth opening . I just dip my applicator in jug to get some methanol on it to do inside cooler doors. No use wasting it adding it to solution just to do a few freezer doors. I do this grocery store every 2 weeks and on one of the weeks I do the cooler and freezer doors for them. 125 of them @ $1 a piece. takes about 30 mins to do them. easy money with right equipment. Works good for me.
Are these safe to use around food products?
Good question Larry. The Iso is probably the lesser of the evils. I also try to use as little as possible in this scenario.
I’ve been using methal hydrate, window cleaning solution and some dish soap for a few years now on freezer doors. Always worked great. But lately ive been seeing an anti- fog 3m tint on the inside. I know after a while it gets banged up and scratched. But my question is… Will methanol eventually burn the annoying anti-fog? If so what are my options? Just leave the doors open till they get warm enough to clean like normal?
