Frozen Gutter Anyone?

Hire more part time guys. It does not take long to train. You’ll be able to get it done on time. On the other hand it depends on where you live. Where I live it doesn’t freeze every day in the winter and worse case scenario is that it freezes for a full week. Just to let you know we average 40-50 gutter cleaning jobs a week during this time of year. It hasn’t been a problem in the past. Again hiring a couple part time guys can help a ton!

On another note, if I lived further up north, I would do the ‘crow bar’ thing and charge more due to the fact that the gutter may freeze more often.

Were is the heat gun man at???

I like using the heat gun, Paul.

There he is. Thanks for coming:) in cause topic had not been on this tread. Messing with you Tony. LOL:)

This would make quick work of a frozen gutter and keep you warm at the same time. :stuck_out_tongue:

ha ha …do you think WCR sells those!

How do you tackle frozen gutter downspouts? Do you use a hot water pressure washer with the psi all the way down and melt the stuff? Just trying to see if any of you guys had any ideas regarding this other than blowing the downspouts to pieces.

I’d recommend the heat gun, even though Paul will bust my chops about it.

Postpone or heat gun…

M100s

Now that was funny Tony. I got to give my fellow Midwest Buddy a liitle B/S.
But if they are really stopped up. Take them apart and clean and then re-seal those babies. More time but charge for it. I do.

Tony we are the heart of America. We keep the bloody flowing for those east coast and west coast guy’s. That move to fast. Just kidding but fun to say for us laid back country folks.

Frozen gutters… I have many waiting on me… Waiting on the temps to change. I’m sure I’ll loose some to another contractor wiling to take the chance with a wonder bar or whatever. Seems feesable? Just the downspouts??? Aside from taking the elbows apart and chipping away at the ice, I dont see a way to clean them??? I read all the posts in this thread.

Heat gun.

Heat Gun?
I’m interested!
How much do they cost appx?
When you aim it at the gutter how long does it take to warm them babies up? Does it warm like 5 seconds a foot?
Do you aim them from below the gutter?
Do you have to be careful about melting anything?

Sounds like there may need to be a heat gun edition of weather or not

It’s in the can!

A decent heat gun will run about $20.
Depends on how much ice in built up. Typically it only takes a few seconds to break the bond between the ice and the gutter.
I warm the bottom of the gutter a little and use the gutter spoon <img src=“Shopwindowcleaner.com tool.jpg” alt=“” title=“” /> to remove the debris.
I try to keep the gun moving so as not to damage the paint.
Hope I answered your questions.

Tony,
I am going to have to look into this…are these plug in heatguns…or some other power source. I need to get 15 more customers done…but the freeze is in…

I assume Tony is talking about the kind of heat gun painters use to strip paint. They are generally plug in.

Yes I’m talking about a plug in heat gun like this one - Black & Decker Power Tools
