Garage door windows - plexiglass scraping?

What is the best way to safely clean garage door panes if they are plexi-glass. Is a wet razor ok?

NOOO !!

Any semi-aggressive scrubbing will more likely produce at least very fine scratches.
If too dirty you can try Simple Green with a rag and rinse, and the follow with strip washer and squeegee. If they haven’t been cleaned in a while chances are that they might be scratched already or faded/foggy-looking is they’re on a side of the house exposed to direct sunlight most of the day.

I had just been wondering the same thing - is it sommon practice to clean garage door windows? And if so what the best method would be. I would think some foaming cleaner, small squeegee, and a rag would do the trick. But most of those are faded pretty badly.

That’s exactly what we use, but if I’m using my WFP I’d give them a quick “pre-wash” with it as I move around the house.

They make special cleaners for plexi and lexan. I’d use one of those or as has been suggested a wfp and maybe a boars hair brush.

I’m scared of using a scrubber on plexi-glass. Whatever you do, don’t use a porcupine on one, unless its a good quality plexi (and we never know when they are).

I thought a bit more about this subject…plexiglass cleaners do exist - I imagine they market it under polycarbonate or acrylic sheet cleaner & polish. Sort of like the idea with foggy/hazed headlights on cars. All you do is buff them with a polish and they look brand new. Could turn into a descent add on if someone had the time to research it.

They do make a specialist cleaner, but… I’ve scratched plexi with microfiber, so really its get that waiver signed.

I like the way you think my friend!

I forgot to mention that plexi-glass has paint-overspray. What are my options with plexi in that scenario?

Many thanks.

As far as I’m concerned the only option is replacement. Anything that would get the paint off would damage and/or discolor the plexi.
