Gutter cleaning

Just because I’ve never offered it before, how does everybody typically bid out gutter cleaning?

Thanks genius. I’m on the road and didn’t have time to search much. Thus the question.

I’m in the midwest (Missouri), and I charge $1/ft 1st storey, $1.50/ft 2nd storey and $2/ft 3rd storey. That assumes that we can safely walk the roof. If we have to do everything from ladders the price goes up. A lot.
While we’re on the subject of walking roofs, at what pitch will you guys no longer walk a roof and switch to ladders?

When my feet start to slip. Sounds stupid but true.

Case by case here. If they’re stuffed, and need to clean some roof, I charge more. It’s more of a feel thing. I have an easier time bidding gutters than window jobs.

Thank you for the feedback, Simon. What pitch, I’m not exactly certain. Me personally, I’ll never do roof cleaning. I’m absolutely terrified of heights. I’ve hired guys specifically for all my heights/ladder/lift/roof work. But I’ll run with that pricing for now and see what happens.

You have to giggle a little when a window cleaner says he is terrified of heights, I have known and worked with a few over the years, I guess this is where is pays to own your own company as being an employee with a fear of heights really restricts you to ground work so a part timer.

If you are afraid of heights, I would think twice about gutters.
For the most part, you’re always going to be higher than any window in the house.
(that was kind of a joke, not being a jerk)

Buck a foot is my minimum. Depending on the time of year, how soon they want/need us will come into play.
Shitty attitude will raise the price higher than even a 3 story roof will

I’m not afraid of heights, but if you are calling me in June, right after a heavy rain…

  • you need me more than I need you!

‘So straighten up Skippy, or do your LIKE that water in your basement?’

No worries Jason. At that pricing, I can usually hit $35 to $45 per manhour on gutters. Sometimes more.

Cool. Called and booked it with that pricing. She says she’ll leave a blank check for the sitter to write for me when we’re done. Well, when my guy is done. Lol

$1/ft first floor, $2/ft second, $3/ft third. $125 minimum (more if they’re far away, less if they’re right in my hometown and I can line up a few jobs close by).

With efficient technique, I’m hitting $75/hr and up on gutter cleaning. $100/hr is fairly common. I usually do best on 2nd story gutters, tbh.

i price by rough square footage of the house. measuring linear feet? ain’t nobody got time for that.

for instance:

1800 square ft and under: basic $149/deluxe $179/premium $269

i don’t really worry about one story vs two. maybe i’ll up charge a bit for a third story, but not always. ladder work isn’t really any harder than walking a roof. they all average out and pricing over the phone is easier this way.

you’ll win huge on some and miss a little on others, but gutter cleaning always still ends up being way more profitable that window cleaning.

Anything more then six is risky. I can walk a seven but I would never want to get close to the edge at that pitch. I usually tie off and then walk everything. Once you get setup with a rope and harness you can do steeper. Hard on the feet but much faster. Better $ per hr

Hey Caleb. What’s the difference between your basic, deluxe and premium service?

I expect to make about $80 per man hour on any work I do. Gutters seem to go way higher. I start at $2 per linear foot. plus $5 per down spout. And as long as I can walk the roof, it doesn’t matter how dirty they are, it doesn’t take too long to clean them. I did a gutter clean add on this passed week for $160 and it took 45 min.

Standard pricing is the easiest, over the phone estimates and no drive time help increase your bottom line. Some jobs you’ll end up cleaning more crap out of some gutters or moving your ladder more often than you want instead of being able to walk the roof.

But not having to drive out to do the estimate saves you time and money, time is money. So now all you have to do is spend an hour or less in most cases for $150 (my standard 2 story gutter cleaning price)

Any advice to how to go about cleaning them ?

With your hands wearing gloves, a 5 gallon bucket, and an extension ladder.
