I was wondering what type of gutter protection you use and why you like/dislike that particular product…Ive been using the 3 ft plastic screened guards from lowes, they sell for $2.00 piece…work pretty well other than the screening coming off sometimes over time. Thanks
I have seen a lot of different types. When I was a general contractor I removed a lot of failed products. From what I have seen and read from other members Rain Flow is the way to go. Remember no type works in 100% of the possible applications so make sure the customer isn’t given unreal expectations.
I don’t like the plastic gutter guards you can get at Lowes. They will warp after a few years in the sun and leave gaps in coverage. They warp along the gutter edge and can’t be put back on. I use Gutter Stuff Pro. It is more expensive but there is a 25 year guarantee.
i use leaf defier. it costs close to $4/ft but comes with a great 25 year no clog warranty and it is very easy to use. i have been using it for almost 5 years and havent had one call back.
new selling point now too is it is a “green” product
you can easily sell it for $8-$10/ft
Nick, ive never heard of that product. How is it installed? Do you have to go thru a dealer? Is the $8-$10.00 ft you charge the cost of guards and installation?
Tony, what do you charge your customers for purchasing and installing rain flow? Whats your cost for the product?
hey sharen,
the product is installed under the gutter brackets… super easy… not as intrusive as rain flow looks to be. alot of my customers also like the fact that you cant see the product from the street.
i charge between $8-$10/ft installed + cleaning. when i first started i found out gutter helmet was charging $20/ft for their product so i was charging $16/ft and was slammed with work. check out what the competition is charging and blow them away with a great product for a fraction of the price.
leaf defier also sells pamphlets for some marketing tools and i bought a piece of gutter at home depot and inserted a small piece as a visual sample for the homeowner.
its like fishing with dynamite
Leaf Defier and Rain Flow seem to have a similar concept. I’m not sure what you mean by Rain Flow being more intrusive. Could you explain? You can’t see Rain Flow from the ground either.
I look at the product on their web site Leaf Defier - Gutter Protection Systems and it looks just like a flat piece of foam at first. Other pics show it looks similar to Rain Flow.
from the video it looks like you have to cut rain flow to fit around the gutter brackets… whereas with leaf defier you slide it under the gutter brackets… it is a super porus material where from the video of rain flow it almost looks like a piece of steel wool… i am planning on ordering a piece of rain flow to see a diffeence or if i get over to aintjemamma’s shop this week maybe ill see a piece.
Does it just slide under the brackets or is there alot of pulling and pushing? Rainflow is more like astroturf than steel wool. You do have to cut it to fit over the brackets. I’m the one who installs all of Aintjemammas rainflow so I can answer any questions you have. They have a sample in a piece of gutter that they got from Rainflow.
you do have to give yourself some slack but doesnt take long to install at all. it installs under the brackets. some houses have been tough because of the brackets being low in the gutter but you can cut the pieces so they are a little shorter and easier to work with.
im going to give linda and bill a call monday and make plans to get together with them… so maybe ill see a piece of rain flow then
Hey Nick,
If you happen to have a piece of the stuff you use laying around could you bring that by I’d like to check it out.
Oh and a little advice try not to stare at Linda’s neck tattoos she will cut you real quick.
haha ok… i always have a couple pieces in the truck so ill bring them by
Is she still carrying a razor in her shoe?
Does the Leaf Defier / Rain Flow become like a “shelf” on top of the gutter? I have installed various gutter protection over the years and Its always a given that the customer will ask if the leaves stick to the top of the gutter guard. People that I have tried to sell product to just seem to not want a product that says that the leaves will eventually blow off with wind or natural decay. I really can’t blame them because it looks like heck. Just curious on what others are hearing.
No she upgraded to a little .22 not sure where she keeps it though:D
Rain flow does for a “shelf” on the top of the gutter. Never used the Lear defier so I can’t say if it does or not.
Rain Flow is designed to keep water and air flowing thru the gutter. It’s an easy sell for people who have experienced frozen gutters and water damage to their homes. They could care less if leaves and stuff sit on top of the product as long as it is doing it’s job and allowing water to pass thru.
