So im curious, Where do you start at when cleaning a gutter? I usually start at the side the downspout is on to check if downspout is clogged first. if it is I will remove the debris to get rid of standing water and make my way to the end and spray the hose from that side if needed once all debris are taken out of gutter
Downspout first, clear it and then survey what else needs to be done, then go around and get it done as needed.
Sometimes only the downspouts are clogged and I work 30 minutes or less for the full gutter cleaning price.

Downspout. Always.
On a good day, remove that damn tennis ball and watch the water flush through.
(don’t you just love those days?!?)
Definitely the downspout
Just did my first partial gutter job 30 mins ago. Short hail storm in 24C/75F weather flooded my parent’s gutters.
I unblocked the spout then stood grinning like an idiot while the water pulled even more debris down it, blocking it even worse.
Managed to get it partially unblocked and cleared out the rest of the water, but told 'em I’d finish when I got better tools. Shame on me for not reading up on gutter cleaning here.
Gutter clean outs. Dirty job but pays better than windows.
Depends on how badly packed the gutters are. If the entire length is clogged it almost doesn’t matter where you start. I have ran into some jobs that were so impacted that the weight of wet debris was causing the gutters to sag. Most times a few taps with a hammer fixes it after emptying. If you can offer gutter repair, all the better.
Nominally clogged, downspouts first.
Gutter job yesterday took 3 hours. Plus I’ll go back next week to clean the windows. No, I wasn’t slow, 265 feet of gutter, most with guards, under some Oak trees. Enough said?
I just had 2 gutter jobs today, they really do pay better per hour than window cleaning.
Better tools though? What’s better than your two hands and a 5 gallon bucket?
Ladder up, hands in scoop out, repeat… I also use a gutter scoop attached to a pole to pull debris closer. Now most sections of gutter I can hit in two ladder placements (as long as they’re not too jam packed)
If the downspouts are clogged I run some water courtesy of a garden house down them and they almost always free up.
Gross jobs sometimes, but the hourly pay off and virtually zero overheard is alright in my book. I also offer repairs, nothing as crazy as installation but I do gutter guard installs, downspout guard installs and tighten up, replace or what have you to the existing gutter system the customer has.

I start at the closest section to my truck… That’s just me…
What about those? 140 feet of that yesterday. Took 3 hours.
I was wondering what tools you use… I used my hands, a bucket and a trash can (which I filled).
I also use a gutter scraper on a pole but I don’t like it. It came with a plastic scoop that broke after 2 clients.

I’m muzzling the homeowner for the least possible bitching effect…
