I have been looking for information on removing hard water stains. I have large windows that get hit with sprinklers when the wind blows too hard and the hard water spots are pretty well built up. This window probably hasnt been cleaned in at least a year. Suggestions on what product to buy? Also, is there a way to find a specific topic on this forum with out reading every one? I don’t want to ask a question that may have been answered already but I couldn’t find the topic.
There is a section on stain removal. There are tons of suggestion son chemicals and ways to protect the glass from future stains.
As for chemicals there are several to choose from here - http://shopwindowcleaner.com/soaps-chemicals/stain-removal.html
You can also use one of these to protect the glass once the stains are removed - http://shopwindowcleaner.com/soaps-chemicals/glass-sealants.html
Bio clean and Titan A 1 are great. I just did a job where the guy who washed the house didn’t rinse well enough. My customer thought he was going to have to replace the windows. I told him that felt like I could remove the stains and did one pane for show. once he saw it not only am I cleaning his windows twice a year now but I will also be the one to wash it yearly.
I have several different products to remove hard water scale from windows, depending on the situation. A mild acid is the best for removing water stains.
The important thing is that the sprinkler gets adjusted. When you remove the water scale from the glass, you are also removing microscopic pieces of the glass, which exposes “fresh glass” underneath. The hard water scale will come back quicker and thicker unless the sprinkler is redirected
start with a milder hard water stain remover and move upwards in acidity if the stains don’t budge. Reserve CC550 as the “nuclear option” requiring rubber gloves and a respirator.
Lower acidity = more elbow grease
stronger acids = less scrubbing but danger of caustic chemicals
your choice, proceed with due caution
I tried some OneRestore for the first time today and WOW it worked great. It was some tough hardwater that had been on my basement window forever, and it came right off like wax with a razor after the OneRestore was on it for 45 seconds or so and rinsed.
That stuff will tear your hands up so be careful, got just a little bit on me and it was noticeably painful. Will certainly wear gloves next time.
Be careful. It will ruin some glass and it is hazardous to your health if you are not protected.
I tried some of JFlints Hard Water Powder and a buffer on some bad deposits on my home. It works better than Nano on heavy stuff but Nano with a buffer might have done as well. I am going to start offering shower enclosure deposit removal. Restore One has worked very well for me in the past on some types of deposit problems, in fact it is pretty awesome the results you can get. I should add that Jeff Flint is very helpful and offered me alot of free phone advice today.
Hard water satin will remove by mixing 50/50 vinegar and warm water and spray it on the windows. Wipe off it with paper towel. Finish with a wet cloth and buff dry with fresh paper towels. You windows will sparkle.
Good Luck!
Ha! Good luck with that…
Yes, that’s me.
