I’ve seen lots of threads about sites like Yelp, Angie’s List, Groupon, Amazon Local, Living Social, etc. What I’m specifically looking for in anyone on the forum who in the past has actually purchased an ad campaign with Yelp. They are telling me that $350 per month they can get me 450 targeted ads per month. I’m 99% sure I don’t want to do this for all the obvious reasons, but I promised Yelp I would check on my forum to see if there was anyone out there who had actually made a similar commitment to them and felt it was worth it. If you just want to share a reason (or two or three) why it seems like a waste or bad allocation of resources, I’m already there. I’m looking for the “yah-sayer” who will tell me it’s worth considering, and why.
Never mind. Just an hour or more after I had told the Yelp sales guy that I wasn’t prepared to commit to a contract at $350 or more per month, Yelp classified as “not recommended” the one review I had which was 5 star and had been visible for over a month right up to my phone call with him. I emailed the sales guy and told him what a sleezy move that was and to not bother to call me back.

Yup, answered your own question. Yelp is terrible.
I did a one month free trial with them. Glad it was free. Glad it was only a month. That said, I really like yelp. My reviews drive at least 80% of my business.

Yelp in the UK is useless unless you are a BIG commercial player.
Residential customers will use who they can find in their area by asking neighbours, using leaflets thru their door, that type of thing.
All i got from a previous yelp ad, was constant calls from other companies trying to sell me things.
Shmelp
We are not fans of Yelp. Most reviews are inevitably blocked from one reason or another.
Just look at the advertising push from Angie’s list in comparison. Yelp is getting smoked.
in the UK , yelp is an also-ran unless youre an eating place . Scoot,gumtree,friday-ad ,freeindex all work better for me
