Hello

Hey all,

I stumbled upon the site here and first impression was that someone has a good thing going here. Tons of traffic, things for sale and very active. Plus something from this forum popped up during my google research for almost everything I typed. I first assumed the site was probably best suited for profiting its owners and not really much else.

I was wrong. There is tons of info here. It’s actually pretty cool and I’ve lost a fair amount of sleep reading through as much as I can during the last two weeks.

So; My name is Logan and I actually was schooled for mechanical design and engineering but after a few years in the field I just started to hate my work. I am very quick to learn on computers and I’m good at it. So… employers always end up wanting me on computers.Problem is that I hate sitting on a computer for 10 hours a day. I changed my mind and got out of that career path. It just wasn’t for me and growing up with self employed parents I always felt the urge to take a similar path.

My mother was a self employed cleaner for 25 years (Mainly new construction and some offices). She is now semi retired and only does work with a a few of her best customers (builders). I grew up working for her and have now (very recently) opened my own commercial cleaning company.

I’m here because while doing move out cleanings I’ve been asked to do windows. At first I said no but then I went and bought some equipment to do insides and the cleanings went slow but turned out good… Bottom line though, I see tons of opportunity in my area and because of my current contacts I know I can get into some window cleaning work. I’m completely unwilling to advertise or seek window cleaning work until I am confident that I can provide a quality service.

So… That is what brought me to the forum. Hopefully I can ask for some help along the way and even be able to help others out with questions that I may be helpful on with my background.

Last part of my very long introduction: Since my goal is to learn the business and gain insight into the entire process; it only makes sense that I have a question right? I’m wondering if there are specific book/DVD sets that people would recommend for a starter? Preferably something that really goes over as much details as possible and starts at the basics?

Thanks guys, I appreciate the helpful information on this forum quite a bit. Good stuff!
Logan

Welcome, Logan.
I know there are a few videos that are cited fairly often as real good ones. Hopefully someone will remember.
As far as tools go, Tool Talk With Mark (Strange) tells the story you need to know. The series is reachable here on the forum or on youtube.

Thanks guys… Dan; thanks for the ideas… Trust me that I already wasted some perfectly good money on bad tools… Now I know better. I’ll keep my eyes open on the forum for suggestions of books and DVDs. For bidding out office cleaning and new construction cleaning jobs I was lucky enough to learn first hand with an experienced person. Window cleaning is going to be a bit different so it’ll be reading, watching and learning as I go…

Not sure about a DVD or book, but you can learn to your heart’s content on this forum and on Youtube.

Welcome Ryan!

Attaching some information as well for you.

hey logan, welcome to wcr.

if you want a really awesome course on building a window cleaning business, check out josh latimer’s window wealth package. the guy is the real deal and the most sincere, nicest most honest guy you could ever meet. window wealth has info on everything from sales, to technique to employee management. the $100 or whatever it costs is well worth it in my opinion.
