Hi

I can clean a 4’x6’ window perfectly in under 20 seconds with a squeegee and washstrip. You should ditch the towel method and learn how to use a squeegee. Lots of instructional videos out there.

Is the method a secret? Back up your claim.

Thanks. It’s exactly what I thought it would be. I’m sure it can be clean but the amount of time taken doesn’t justify the means. I have infinite levels of chemicals to clean based on the window dirtiness too. In my area I just assume they haven’t been cleaned in 5 years and clean accordingly. Squeegee always works when cleaned correctly.

Many (if not most) of us that post are window cleaning company owners or techs who are serious about growing in the business. That being said, as the site logo suggests, I am pretty certain 99% of us use squeegees for inside cleaning at least, and for a good reason. When you use your towel only method, do the windows come out absolutely streak (and lint) free?

I did watch the video above. I imagined that’s what the towel only method would be. I suppose it’d do an adequate job, but I’m pretty sure the squeegee and washer method would be faster on average and would remove dirt and grime more efficiently. And, it would result in a streak-free result everytime once you become proficient with your techniques. On a maintenance clean, the 3-towel method could work, but I can’t imagine it being my main or let alone only method.

I’m curious, why did you want to talk to other window cleaners who use this method?

I live between the Gulf and Bay so salt on windows is an issue here. I think a regular scrubber dipped in cleaning solution applies enough liquid to not scratch the glass from granules of dirt and salt, for that reason alone I would not want to do the 3 towel method. Then there is the speed thing. I mostly do large multi windowed homes and it takes anywhere between 3 - 8 hours to do one huge home and I am not fiddling on any one one window.

I was just noticing that most people use squeegees in their window cleaning business and I was curious if anyone else used the towel method. I’ve been learning a lot from all of the input on this site. Many window cleaners on this site have a lot of experience and are very professional. I was just looking to see if I could get more ideas from those that are using towels. Thanks for your response I appreciate it!

I would go that far. did you use a squeegee at the other job? where abouts are you located?

Thanks great response. It sounds like you have a nice system in place… Best of luck

I’m in Minnesota…

People are going full potato these days.

I know of guys that did this in the late 70s an early 80s an they used chamois‘s. I had one of the sons working with me a while back an he told me about the method. I can’t explain it , but it sounded labor intense.

@Michael2 obviously your familiar with the squeege technique, an the WFP technology.
Are you saying the way you do it is more efficient?

Lay off guys. Maybe he’s Amish. All old school.

Perhaps he is just bored under the stay-at-home-order and is just jerking every ones chain. I mean he doesn’t back up his “novel approach” with anything.

Meanwhile looks like the next couple of weeks off for me as regulars are saying they want to wait until after May 1st. Dangit.

Thanks that was hilarious!

I nearly started my first reply with,
forgive him, he knows not what he’s done!
but I try to be kind…ish.
