Keep in mind most of us are looking at this through the eyes of a business owner, where I believe Kenny, If I’ve read his past post correctly, is an employee.
In some depressed markets, that may be what the market will bear. Personally, I’d find a different market in that case.
A total misconception my friend. It only rains 300 days a year:rolleyes:
The gray skies make it a little dreary sometimes.
A double hung window, I count as “two windows” and I charge $7/window. So that would be $14 dollars in/out for that window.
Throw a fish at it…
A little something I found and amended for window cleaners:
"IF MONEY IS NO OBJECT, objects assume increased value by virtue of their “wow” factor. Objects do make an impression.
Be honest, now. Few who choose expensive items do so to admire them in privacy. They must be seen to be appreciated as a reflection of the owner’s taste and, yes, status. They go way beyond “need” and into the realm of serious “want.” And the special few who want them—and buy them—join exclusive clubs of the knowledgeable who share their acquisition.
So it is with sparkling clean quality glass windows! Everyone will rave about their beauty and design. Until they are dirty again and require another cleaning. Maintaining beauty is of the utmost importance to those who “want.”
Hey you must have visited here. Seattlites know how to throw fish!
That is crazy how they do that at Pikes Market, pretty amazing really.
My wife is from there, and the only time I’ve been there when it wasn’t dreary was our wedding week. Guess we caught a bit of luck there (the sun was shining too). Every other time it has been crummy … but I don’t mind it cause I don’t have to clean windows when I’m there.
Hey it make cleaning window a breeze. No hot sun blaring down on me, drying up my windows.
Ok ok, I’m trying to justify myself here
But it does make it a little easier.
When it’s clear and sunny here, it one of the most amazing places to see.
Back in the late eighties … I just read a neat book called the “The fish story” as well. I remember the rain
I had a guy call me a couple of days ago. He said I gave him an estimate two years ago. I asked him how much. He said “$289.00 for everything inside and out including tracks and screens.” So I asked him some basic questions to get my new price. Do you know how much more money I charged him to do his house two years later? $100.00 more. I raised my rates $100.00 more for this guys house.
Did he end up using me after I told him the increase? Yes! Did he try to talk me down? Yes! Did I let him? Kind of! (enough with the exclamation points, sorry) I told him I could lower my price if he wanted to drop some of the services I provided him. He wanted the same price and I said if you don’t want your tracks cleaned or your screens cleaned I’d be more than happy to honor my old price.
I appreciate higher prices. If you look at the bigger companies out there un-related to window washing but in the service business they have really high prices. For example: I know that merry maids charges $42.50 per person per hour. And they always send two maids. That’s $85.00 an hour. Another example, I saw Stanley Steemer clean a couple of rugs and what not. They were there for 30 minutes or maybe 45 and charged $300.00.
The people who don’t charge enough go out of business. Those who charge what their worth and understand how to make a profit (you know we are supposed to do that right? make a profit) will stay in business and either grow and/or fatten their bank accounts and live a happy stress-free (as much as money can buy) kind of life to provide for their family and put money into worthwhile causes they believe in.

(In this point I am purely speaking in a cash/money way)[/CENTER]
I charge $20 for a skylight that is as high as I go unless the window is extremely large in whcih case I have gone up to $50 a window. But they only had two of those. The window was 15 feet wide and 2 and a half stories high a single pane of glass. Never seen anything like it before.
I say the more you can make why not, value is a matter of opinion. People who have a lot of money to spend usually don’t mind spending it especially if they feel in their mind they are getting something of value.
If someone wanted to pay me $100 a window I would do it and make sure they were the best windows they ever saw.
You should be making the windows the best they ever seen at $20. If you can’t do that, raise the price.
I clean every window the same
I always do great work no matter the price, thats how I get repeat business and good refferals.
