what is the highest yall have had to go on a ladder to clean windows??
40ft fully extended. That was a solo set to, not the funniest day, but a great experience!
I used a 60… but wouldn’t even think about contemplating, whether or not to do that again
I feel ya J…
I’m not young as I once was!
60ft fully extended,I don’t mind the high ladders but unfortunately living in ireland can make it quite a challenge using it at times.
60 ft here also. Years ago when I was working for someone else on a 5 story hotel. It was freaking crazy. I remember it took 2 people to move the damn thing and I was the low man in the rank so I was climbing it most of the time. I remember during the job saying to myself I’m not getting paid enough for this crap! It was one of the many motivational moments during my 2 years working for this guy to go ahead and try it on my own.
An odd gust of wind when you were at the top always made it interesting!
Been there…lol
Well the ladder was only 30’ but when I stood on the top rung that makes it 36’ and a pole makes it 42’…Does that count?
Six 6 foot sections on a sectional ladder.
That thing looked like a bell curve…never again.
-_-
I think anyone who has been in the industry a while will have a few ladder stories to tell - but now that WFP is so affordable, I do hope the next generation moves away from ladders a bit.
Lets be completely honest - I climbed way too high and I did things that were in retrospect really quite dangerous, just for a few bucks. I was young and stupid, and didn’t know about WFP at the time,… but risking your life to make a wage is never clever even if you can’t see an alternative for that particular job,… just turn the job down!
WFP isn’t just the safer option - for most work at height its MUCH faster too. Ladders still have a place, but they shouldn’t be the first choice anymore.
Yep I’m with you on this. I did some extremely risky stuff in my early years just to clean a window & make a few bucks. I also remember doing a job with the same company that I climbed the 60ft ladder for. There were about 6 separate windows on a very steep slope where a 40ft was all that would reach it but it was straight up and down. My boss at the time thought it would be a good idea to tie the ladder off to the 275lb big guy that worked with us and have him pull the ladder toward the building with his weight to keep it from falling backward etc…Of course being the low man on the totem pole and the lightest I was asked to climb it. Well I climb up it and once I got to the top there was a hornets nest in the corner that I did not see at first and when I started cleaning the window the hornets came out and stung me about 4 times on top of this ladder. I almost fell off that damn ladder. I went straight down the ladder and told my boss my life is worth more than those stupid windows. Never did anything that dumb again!
60ft ladder
6 sections with stabilizers
wfp a 5 story barrel wall of windows with no frames
high rise
the one place i dont like climbing ladders is on top of high rise/mid rise roofs near the edge.
Lol, simple math says it’s not a ladders height for the fall. Wow.
