Well said, My business is a means to support my family and my hobbies. I pay careful attention to my business, but I do not sacrifice my family for money. There are more important things in life than money
So true.
Good reality check, Kevin.
Wow Kevin! You really cut into the heart of the matter. It is so easy to get lost wearing all these different hats. I had to convince myself that it was ok to take a weekend off and not have to work 72 hours a week or 6 days a week all summer long. It is especially hard in the very beginning…
I remember coming home to an empty bedroom apartment after working a dead end second job with dirty dishes in the sink at midnight… finishing them and then working on flyers right after so I could distribute some basic black and white ones at 7 am. Many, many sleepless nights or only getting 4/5 hours of sleep. Working the next day in maybe a town in New York that is 1 hour away. Having to get back at 3 pm so I could prepare dinner and then back to work at my second job at 4pm. Eating dinner at 6 pm while standing because I have bills piling up on my table. Making call backs right after or scheduling jobs. And then my personal favorite was doing laundry alone on my only day off … Sunday.
Then Monday came lightening fast and it was the same thing all over again.
I laugh when people say they can make a quick buck in this business overnight. Why are so many people afraid over stupid competition? 95% of businesses fail in the first year anyway. The second year 50% fail. For the majority of people who start it’s how much can you bleed before you decide it’s too much. Way too many think they can go to Home Depot and make a successful business in 6 months. They FAIL to realize all the many responsibilties you have as a business owner. Then they get scared and say stupid things like you can’t make any money cleaning windows. Back to flipping burgers at burger king.
I took this advice but in my case I took a vacation:D
