Home and garden show

Just dropped about 2k for my booth @ the home and garden show in the end of Feb2012. We are doing a few different presentations. So far I am the only maintenance company @ the show. This alone has to be worth $. I’m going to do demos on scratch removal, roof washing( after my training session at NOLA2012) with info on golopagus magma(spelling?), how gutter cleaning can help prevent ice dams, and a run down of the rest our services. I feel like I’m putting together a project for a sicence fair, love it already!

Anyone have any experience with shows same/similar to home and garden? Looking for ideas, help, or input. I have my girlfriend and 2 of her friends all “lions shared” out in apparel and they will be directing traffic to the booth( very attractive girls). I also and going to do some hand out packets, tri folds, pens, hand sanitizer, ect. Thenim also going to buy a. TV and do a drawing for the TV as well as service packages and discounts. The drawing will be to gain contact info, they will fill out a question or two about most desierd home service (that we provide), then maybe something about how often they use services like ours a year, or something along those lines.

I’d like some more ideas. Ill keep you all posted on the process and how it all works out.

Sounds like an expensive experiment.

I like the gamble in you Dave. Hope it works good and I think it’s a great move having the attractive girls directing traffic. Just keep them inside we wouldn’t want to cause a traffic accident.

Dave - good talking to you the other day. For those of you that don’t know - this guy is a hustler. Postcards, flyers, tri-folds, sale sheets, add on services, home shows, etc…you make my head hurt sometimes. But to each their own, and at least you are really getting out there. Let me know about the show dates - maybe we can check it out.

That sounds really cool Dave. If I were to get involved in a home show I would go out just about exactly as you are. Please keep us posted on the results, both short term and long term. I would love to know.

I have done home shows in the past with our retratcble doors and custom screening. great results 7 and 8 years ago then to good results then when the economy tanked the home shows did not pay. people werent buying and booth prices went up from $1200 for a corner booth to $1400. the show wasnt pulling to begin with so people used their money in other avenues, less people bought booths less people came and the circle of death continues. when you have half of the areana devoted to hot tubs and rv’s thats usually the sign of a bad show. Im waiting for them to come back here but every year gets worse. If you have a really large show you should do well

yep - sounds like your bases are covered. I did the home show years ago at the old “civic center.” before it became Excel. I only did window cleaning. I cleaned the same window for days it seemed like (set up on an esel) it was like a punishment it seemed like. People asked alot of questions and I answered alot too. Even though I had a banner with “window cleaning” on it, people were looking for replacement windows. The show was four days… LONG DAYS. I had a window cleaning bucket setup to register for a free window cleaning. Build a nice customer list from it, got about 10 appointments from it.

I like the idea. I think you got most bases covered.

Crazy how time flys…

You going to do anymore shows Dave? I got 3 lined up to do this year. Roi was awesome for them last year mostly selling my retractable screens need to push my other services this year though. Also going to get Steve with at cost printing to design a new booth for me.

I would love to see some photos of the trade show sets people are using.

Pretty weak but that’s why I am getting a new one this year

How did the show work out for you was it worth it

I just have a 3 1/2" wide by 7’ tall hinged with a single clear view and one side and a French on the other. Put a sign above eac one with one saying this is how you screen a single door and the other this is how you screen a French door. Then open and close the doors all day long. A lot of people don’t know what the screens r for they just think they look cool… Once I had those 2 sign made up sales doubled at the home shows.

Yea if you look at the pic I have 2 single doors and a french door all set up on the blue frames. I do need some signs to hang above them. And my arm hurts after 3 days of just opening and shutting them as people go by.
