Hose

I am wanting to get a hose and a reel. My question is about the hose. I see there is another thread in here about where to get them but not about the hose.

I was curious as to what you are looking for in a hose? Is there any difference between them? Will any hose that works for air also work for water? I went to a local pest and weed company by my house and they sell a yellow hose that looks like most hoses I see. Its rated for up to 300psi and is .75 a foot. I am looking for something less expensive but don’t want to cut on quality either.

Please help BILL !

Go to your local pluming warehouse for plumbers, it should be around $.50 per foot. or go to www.windowcleaner.com and they have hose too.

You can use air hose, but sometimes it is a pain to work with because it is real hard rubber.

Use 1/4" or 3/8" Hose

I use the 1/4 air hose. It’s not rubber, I believe it’s pvc. It’s really easy to work with. It’s around 20 dollars per 100 feet, not including quick connects.

Micah,

Thanks, that seems to be a fair price. How well do you think that will hold up in Az temps 100+? As far as connections go where you able to find them easly?

Billy

I think the hose would do ok in those temps, provided you’re running water through them most of the time. I wouldn’t leave it out in the sun w/o going through it. I would think the constant flow of water would help cool it off.

As far as connections, you can get quick connects meant for WFP use in the WCR store. I have been using regular brass air quick connects for a little over a month now and they’re working good so far. No leaks and easy to put together. They probably just won’t last as long as the quick connects that are made for WFP.

http://www.hosexpress.com/ Their website isn’t the best, but they have great prices on hosing. I called them up to order 500’ of hose (some really strong poly-something). They have pressure ratings for various temperatures on their site. Also, they have good prices on reels.

I believe this is the tubing I bought: http://www.hosexpress.com/pvc/SeriesK1154.htm … it’s been a while …

I second that. I have quick connects on all the hoses for real quick tank switches, etc. Makes life so much easier.

Mountainview,

Like your signature at the bottom. Gave me a chuckle!

I went to hosexpress to order my hose and they screwed it up! They have cheap prices but their employees are not very professional, at least not the one I spoke to. They also do not have a online shopping cart. I waited for over a week only to call them and have them say they have no record of my order. This makes me wonder who now has my credit card information.

I bought a few hundred feet of 5/16 pole hose for my DI line from another store and I hope it will do the trick as I need my hose soon.

I emailed them once with what I was looking for. Waited a week and a half never heard anything. Emailed them again a guy called about 4 dys after and told me he had not came up with my package yet. All I asked for was 300 ft of one of there hoses and a cox reel. Not sure what there deal is.

You just can’t beat the 3/8" hose for WFP setup. I got mine from Shawn Gavin @ Reach Higher ground. It wasn’t cheap but it is top notch hose. It’s very durable and very flexible. Very easy to manage. The hot sun doesn’t phase it at all. I’ve got 300’ of the yellow hose on a stacked Cox reel.

The best stuff isn’t cheap. Do yourself a favor and spend a little cash on good hose. When you have to drag 300 feet of hose around a house through trees, shrubs, & yard furniture you’ll appreciate the good hose.

Another thing to consider is whether or not the 1/4" PVC type of hose can stand up to vehicles driving over it say when you have your hose stretched across the driveway just outside of the garage at a residence.

Is the PVC resilient enough to handle the unavoidable vehicle running over it? Sometimes you could move your hose before the resident or their guest drives over it but sometimes you won’t notice them and they won’t notice your hose.

I try to avoid letting vehicles run over my 3/8" hose but sometimes it happens. Luckily the 3/8" hose I have stands up to it just fine.

Now road traffic would be a different thing. I think that would damage any hose. I do not stretch my hose accross streets or roads.

Hello

Great job. Thanks for sharing this info. This is a highly informative posting which contains details that many of us would not be aware of. I would surely check out the link.

Thanks
Have a nice time ahead.
