How / best way to get first customers

Hello all I’ve just started my business trying to get my first customers. I have businesse cards, and I made flyers so what’s the best way to advertise/ get your name out there. I have left business cards at some restaurants that have boards to hang cards on. I have gone door to door and past out flyers but due to having to walk up to each and every door to drop off flyers I’ve realized it’s very slow and I work a separate full time job so it’s hard to devote hours to walk around and pass out flyers. So what’s the fastest and most efficient way to advertise and what have you found to yeld the best rate of return

I’ve gotten most of my commercial business by walking in and asking the manager if they have a window cleaner. Most of the time they don’t. Obviously I look for dirty windows. Having a good sales pitch helps too. I don’t put my cards at those boards in different places. That’s where all the lawn guys advertise so I don’t really want the next lawn man hard up for work to put his card there and see a professional window cleaners card. Residential work is easy to get. Why ask?
You already know (“I look for dirty windows”)

Point out the problem. Offer the solution.
Smack them in the face with subtlety that their customers are looking at that filth.

And be on your way, as you were “just passing by,” after all.
Odds are the next words out of their mouth will be “how much”

I have not past of cards at work I will have to try and do that. Ide like to keep it discrete. Anyone else any other tips or tricks?

Just be sure not to give one to the guy that wants to find a new job.

Flyer and door hangers are time consuming, but worth it. Last week I put out around 50 door hangers and got a call the next day, $300 job booked first week of May.

I find the best times, for me at least, doing door hangers/flyers on residential neighborhoods has been 930am-1pm… Hardly anyone outside to bother me while I walk up and down the street putting them out.

… EDDM. Works well for me. Most of where I want to be working
is rural, too far between houses to go door to door.

Whatever you do, you should offer much more than you wold normally would be willing do to for a certain amount of income. Then, once you have enough clients, you can raise your prices.

I just started my business and what worked for me so far are (in order of success)

1-flyers at the door (I print on a single sheet, roll it up with a rubber band and wrap it around the door handle)
2- Kijiji ads (same as Craig’s list)
3-local newspaper ad in the “pros business cards” section.

some people keep the fliers and call a few weeks after to post them, which is nice.
you need to keep refreshing your ad on the classified site as it goes stale and gets buried.
