How do I get my first clients?

I was working for a guy who had an established window washing business. I did some pavement pounding for him going into businesses and got a couple accounts he could add to his routes. Is this the best way for me to start my business or are there more efficient ways such as flyers, google adwords, etc. ???

I landed a few storefronts and restaurants, and the rest has been word of mouth. I’m growing this puppy slowly, but with the right clientele. Talk to your friends that are pulling in 6-7 figures, and they’ll hook you up. They get all stoked on your work and talk to their other friends and family that make half-decent money, and you don’t need to spend all this money on marketing. I’m a guerilla marketing type guy, so this concept probably won’t work in all demographics.

Thanks man. I’m probably going to dive in the deep end and put together some flyers for fall. I still need to send out my summer thank you post cards!

Pounding the pavement is the quickest way to gain work - - but you should use a combination of approaches.

You can’t pound the pavement 24/7 so setup a company facebook, twitter and Google+ page and update them EVERY night after you finish.

Get some flyers - any homes/businesses where you don’t get chance to talk to the owner, leave a flyer.

Get vehicle signs - even the cheap magnetic ones bring in work.

Get work shirts printed up with “Window Cleaner - Ask me for a quote” printed real big on the back - be a walking billboard wherever you go.

Build yourself a website - it doesn’t need to be fancy starting out, you can always improve it when you’re earning - but it can be a valuable source of work and looks great on your marketing materials too.

Post in local buy & sell groups on facebook, advertise on craigslist etc etc - - the quality of client from these sources is usually rubbish - but starting out every dollar counts, so take every job you can.

Tell people you’re building a new business - ask them to mention you to family and friends - leverage your real world circle of contacts & remind them regularly for the first few months that you really need and appreciate their support.

Make yourself visible EVERYWHERE you can - never miss an opportunity.

Don’t relax - - because for a couple of years the seasonal slow-downs will hit you hard. Prepare for them and market extra hard in the 6 weeks prior.

I dont know how IT works were u from, but here in Sweden you can just start your business online and its cost about 120 dollars.
When i started i had 0 customer, just start and then u tell your friends, family, Facebook etc to spread that your cleaning Windows, someone will know someone how wants they Windows done. After a while it spreads its self, mouth to mouth.
