I had a request to moss treat a roof. It’s steep apparently, 10/12, and I want to know the best ways to approach this. I’ve seen the following setup before with a ladder hook. Where do I get a ladder hook?..roofing supply stores, I guess.
How is the hook setup to secure nicely over the apex? Is the hook adjustable for other roof angles or do I need a hook for each roof pitch type?
I haven’t gone to the house yet, but am also looking for ways to apply zinc sulphate from the ground…any ideas there?
Check with your local Fire Department, they all must carry hook ladders, they can tell you who sells them. A volunteer department may even have a spare loaner for your small donation to keep you from buying one.
As far as the roof hooks, you can get them at any contractor supply, roofing, or ladder shop. They hook onto the end of your ladder and then the other end “hooks” over the opposite side of the roof. You then use the ladder as a type of stairs to move up and down the roof. One size fits all.
Why in the world would you need a ladder hook??? Are you a roof cleaning company? If not, I would pass this on to the person who knows how to clean roofs. This roof should be able to be cleaned from the roof line without ever stepping foot on the roof. We clean 12/12 pitches on most every roof and very rarely ever step foot on a roof.
Good point. We all have to start somewhere. I am making my entrance to the roof cleaning market this year.
May you elaborate? This woman has moss on the roof, I’m not sure if you guys experience that in Alabama; moss seems more intense than mold or algae, a lot more mass to work with. I promote the powdered zinc sulphate as opposed to any mechanical method of brushing or pressure washing. I am looking forward to the softwashing class in NOLA to see if I can use it to address people’s moss issues.
Dont even bother wasting your time with this thread if you are going to Micah’s class. He will address moss at the class. I ASSURE YOU, THIS CLASS WILL BE THE BEST MONEY YOU EVER SPENT!!! I’m not going to go into detail about how to clean a roof because you will learn everything at Micah’s class. If you have more questions after the class, I’ll be sure to answer them there in NOLA for you.
We have been doing this for 15 years. I have been in the roof cleaning / treatment industry for nearly 25 years. Treat from the gutter line, or from the top of the roof. I think I have spoke with you on the phone about this very subject before. Most guys who want to get into roof cleaning don’t charge enough, don’t get caught in that trap. It ruins the market for the professionals out there. They roll in, blanket a neighbor hood with $99 roof cleaning only to be outta business within 6 months. I have seen it over and over the past 25 years. If you need any advice or want to read up more on techniques we use, check us out Portland Roof Cleaning Good Luck.
They beat me to it. I was going to say we are about to learn this first hand in a couple weeks and I believe most are done from the ground. Just hold tight - 11 days my brotha.
