How do you guys deal with rain?

idk, There was a Radiohead video that threw me for a loop once too.

Some of you know that I am new last fall to the biz and currently I do not have a rain policy. After a cleaning and it has rained prior to my return to finish a job I have not even noticed one dried spot on the windows that were completed. The same goes where it might have been very humid with moisture on the bottoms of the panels. I am using Ecover or GG3 on my glass!..maybe it’s the quality pf products?

My question to you seasoned pros?..Has any of your customers allowed you to come on rainy days to address the interior then return for exteriors when the weather permits? I have not had enough work to be presented with this problem as of yet…meaning… an overload of work and the rain…well… really causing problems with your schedule.

Thanks again…this forum is amazing!..

At my last job this was pretty much the norm, on a rainy day we would do interiors and then a crew would return at a later scheduled clear day to complete the job. This was a lot easier with multiple crews going out each day, I think being a one man show you should simply reschedule the job so you’re not driving there twice using double the gas and mileage.

Fill those rainy days up with gutter cleaning, yea it sucks being wet but gutters are a lot easier to clean when everything is wet. Especially if you’re cleaning them out by hand.

Or, you could do a few interiors, then come back the next day and do exteriors. No additional fuel being used up, and no rescheduling.

No rain guarantee. I have a restaurant on a very high traffic road, that I clean monthly. It never fails that when I drive by after it rains that the front glass looks like it was not cleaned. The dust from the road has turned to mud. I think of it as a reverse rain guarantee. It guarantees that they will want me to continue to clean their dirty glass.

Pretty sure coming back a second time uses more fuel than just going once AllWashedUp

Unless you have a magical vehicle that none of us have ever seen, maybe some reverse magical hybrid Prius work van that actually creates fuel as you drive to a job twice to do the same job you can just reschedule the next day or two ahead when the weather breaks?

Haha. Guess I should have been more clear…

Say you have a rain day, and the next two days you have 4 jobs scheduled, 2 in/out on Monday, 2 in/out on Tuesday. Do all 4 interiors the rain day, then go do exteriors the 2nd day. Still the same amount of trips, same amount of fuel, same amount of time.
Make sense now?

That makes much more sense, the way I answered the question was in regards to one large job for the day. Hence the reschedule and just come back

Gotcha now AllWashedUp

Whenever there is a rain day, you need to look at that day, plus the next day. So, it would also work for one large job for the day. Do the inside of that large job, plus the inside of the next days job. Then hit both exteriors the next day. Then you don’t have to worry about rescheduling, and messing up your schedule. This will only work if you can call your other customer and talk them into letting you come out a day earlier than expected. Typically, when you explain the rain situation, they are more than willing to help.
This helps a lot if you have a packed week, and not much wiggle room for cancellations/rescheduling.

I use that same line down here all spring. Haha

I just came across a website that offer several levels of rain guarantee. Additional charge per window, per level.

3 day - free
7 day - $1 per window
14 day - $2 pw
21 - $3 pw
28 - $4

it’s how the rest of us supply you with water.

Lol. Oh yeah, I forgot! J/k
Actually, our use of DI water has spiked our water usage, we are in a drought!

Actually, it’s not funny. We are in some SERIOUS trouble if we don’t get rain this winter. Cal. Agriculture contributes to a very large portion of produce throughout the country.

Big, big trouble

Pray for rain in Cali

I can usually convince the customer to, if not let us work anyway, to at least let us get the inside done. I think I only had one customer reschedule lat year
