How do you secure your ladder to your rack?

The bigger question is why does Thad need to have such a ginormous avatar?

Ladder clamps - which are your copied version (hook 'em dano) - & which sound like they aren’t as good as ours? They do need maintenance, every couple of years I spray the threads with silicon oil, no probs.

racheting straps - the kind with no hooks. I hate the hooks… for some reason they drive me crazy. I’ve used romex (sheathed electrical wire) - works if you have 1 or 2 ladders. I don’t like the idea of securing 4-5 ladders using romex - that’s just me though.

Bungees? I have heard too many horror stories of contractors coming to an abrupt stop and the ladder launching like a javelin into a soccer mom’s minivan. I think in most states bungee cords aren’t legal for holding down loads.

Need?
Who said anything about NEED?
:stuck_out_tongue:

I guess the automatic resizer didn’t automatically resize it.
I’ll fix it. I littttttle bit smaller.
Lol

We use ratchet straps also.

I like using straps as well

I started this thread and went with ratchet straps that I really liked until they got rained on and rusted. Got stuck pretty good. I’m now using the hook um dano system and REALLY like it! Ladder is one with the van now.

Thank you for this thread! I ordering the hook em dano tomorrow. I hate using those rackets. Take to long to put on and a pain

same here

I use 3 foot lengths of yellow coated chain and padlocks. I feel much safer knowing that my ladders aren’t going anywhere.

I prefer more secure measures … Chains and lock!

Bungee Cords

on vans i have weather guard and adrian racks with either manual or pneumatic locking arm. On a jeep i have a thule rack. The weather guard has a spot for a master lock, the adrian i use a python bike lock which is a cable. I use bungee and python on the jeep cherokee.

I use a particular brand of bungees at the local true value, they are not all made the same. No plastic ends, these are metal, brass plated, and very good materials. I think even made in usa. Then to be safe i use something i think called a sinch strap, its like a one way buckle, you feed a belt through a metal buckle, and pull, it wont let a ladder fall, well not to the ground, the side of the jeep would be pretty beat up.

Anyone using bungees should have something like the trs strap, ill find the exact name and manufacturer tonight.

I use ratcheting straps and secure the ladders to my truck bed as I don’t have a ladder rack. They’ve been rained on plenty here in Washington, but never had an issue with them rusting.
