How do you secure your ladder to your rack?

Just mounted a ladder rack on my van for a 24’ extension.

I like the hook-em dano concept, but needing to save some money right now.

How do you secure your ladders?

I use cable and lock for security. I use non-metallic sheathed electrical cable to hold the ladders to the rack…like giant bread ties…

We work enough construction sites we pick up pieces all the time

Hook em Dano

bungee cords, bicycle cable & pad lock

We used to use Hook em, but they either got cross threaded or seemed almost rusted shut, so we switched to heavy duty trailer ratchet straps (the big yellow ones). I like the lock down feature (not theft but safety), and they run the full length of the ladders so secured to both racks. Hook em was nice idea, but I think our rough dirt roads were just too much for them

i use a combo of lashing straps and python cable lock. in this photo my ladders are not on the vans but locked up behind my home for security at the weekends but you can see the yellow lashing straps and black python cable lock

I strap my ladders to my car with no rack

I have put up to 5 ladders on my 1990 honda civic wagon…lol believe it or not

We have the Adrian Steel self locking racks on our vans. So far they have been dummy proof

bungee cords only

Ancra tie downs…don’t buy an imitation. Ancra Tie Downs

I have a System One rack and the work winches. I wrap the ratcheting straps around the outside of the rack, around one rail of the ladder and back onto the the side of the rack. Then I ratchet the winch tight. It’s actually kind of a hassle compared to my former setup with my van, but it’s very safe.

I’m not saying this to be critical, but more out of concern. I used 9 bungee cords for a few years to secure my ladders, and was always scared to death that one or two would snap and I’d lose my ladder. One time I was driving home on an interstate and there was a cross wind. I could see my ladder swaying right and left despite 9 bungee cords. Very scary.

Use a piece of Romex at both cross rails.
It will not stretch, slip, or break.

Do NOT use bungies.

Yes, Very Safe. I have two vans with the System one Cargo Racks. The Racks will last longer tan the vans. Both racks were put on brand new. The first one has been on my first van for 7 years and absolutely no issues at all. They have no parts that can rust so they will last forever.

i like hookems because you can tighten them down so theres less rattle driving down the street and they stay locked.

a nail gun

I wanna put a python on mine. They cut my steel 5/8" cable & took off w/ my 28’ extension ladder in bill cosbys old neighborhood…them friggin temple owls scope every block.

Temple owls? Not familiar.

Why can’t you be serious about this? A cordles drill and a driver bit with self drilling and tapping deck screws works much better!
