How do you wash huck towels? DO you use detergent?

I was always told to just wash my huck towels in my washer with just water and no laundry detergent. I was told the detergent leaves a residue on the towels. IS this correct or does anyone just wash them with detergent like regular laundry?

I use about half of what I would normally use when washing. Don’t use fabric softener or dryer sheets. It will make them less absorbent. Don’t wash with anything else or you will get link on your towels. Hope this helps.

I agree, I do half as well and no dryer sheets.

As above, with less detergent (free & clear) and an extra rinse cycle. I wash with my sleeves and cheapo microfiber cloths and dry hucks as a segregated load. Sleeves and microfiber cloths are air-dried. No fabric softener.

I have noticed a difference since washing all my window cleaning stuff separate and with lesser detergent. No film after detailing.

I use scrims, so i don’t know if there’s a big difference, but I don’t use any detergent, just water.

I use bar towels. I wash in mild detergent, spin dry and hang on the line to dry. I don’t put my towels in the dryer

Are “bar towels” lint-free, John?

If you don’t wash them in bleach and put them in the dryer. Remember, bar towels work best when wet, just like a chamois.

If you want lint free that will not scratch or marr surfaces, use baby diapers

I use only the soap absorbed by the towels while cleaning and air dry because dryer sheets leave a residue in the dryer. Except for the batch of hucks I bought from a company in the motor city. Six times through the washer and dryer before I could snap them and not leave a cloud floating in the air. Don’t wash scrim much, just rinse and wring on site after each use.

Do you detail with the wet bar towels?

I’ll wash my hucks, white cotton towels, scrims, and microfiber cloths and mop pads with about 1/2 the normal detergent and a few oz. of baking soda. Separate from clothes of course.

Dan, first time I have heard of using baking soda with the wash. How does this help in your opinion?

I don’t know what you mean by detail. Once I squeegee the glass, I don’t touch it again

We use sunlight laundry detergeant and they come out great. We haven’t had any problems with residue
