Im using Glisten right now and I like it. Im putting a capfull of soap for every gallon of water. Works pretty good but could use some more glide and from watching the videos online everyone seems to have much sudsier water on the windows.
Also, any way to avoid the trail lines while fanning? Sometimes I just can’t avoid leaving some lines when I come back across the glass.
I never use more than the recommended solution ratio. The bottle should tell you what it is. If you’re leaving trails try changing your rubber and slowing down a little for a bit to refine your technique.
from my experience different solutions in different amounts provide different glide
but hands down glide issues can be solved by dawn 1/4 of a table spoon per gallon
there is a thread about “trails” somewhere on the forum
there could be several reasons why there are streaks
i got end of the rubber streaks, streaks from damaged rubber, film from bad rubber (like when you run the blade over clean dry window) spots from not fanning properly
overlap about 1" and tip your blade in direction you are fanning
i dont leave any rubber to hang outside the channel , i clip it to fit
thats somewhat different from what i wrote on trails but someone correct me if i’m wrong
I use a drop of Palmolive, a smidge of Dawn, 14 microns of gg4, 18 drops of gg3(which must be dropped into the bucket from exactly 27 inches), a splash of methanol, and a Unger pill just for old times sake. Then I turn around 3 times counterclockwise(unless its a tuesday and there is a thunderstorm then its 4 turns clockwise) and your ready to go.
I skip the water entirely and go with 1/2 ammonia, 1/2 bleach. The key is to mix it in a closed room with no ventilation. The results make you breathless.
Thanks for all the tips. Im gonna trip clipping the rubber off at the ends of my channels and see what happens. I do primarily residential work but I like to fan as often as possible because the results are just better if done right, plus its just so much more fun. As for the solution Im gonna add a little dish soap and see how that goes
carefull how much you clip off the ends, it may scratch the frames,
watch the latest video of Mark, #22, discusses GG4 and Dishsoap.
also do a search of the site, there are over 50 threads with this discussion, so some answer here are a little off, except the one on ammonia and bleach, it is right on the money…
