I know it depends on how many jobs you do, but how often are you changing your squeegee blades including flipping them over…daily… weekly?
On a long day I’ll flip the rubber between jobs and replace it at the end of the day.
I squeeze every inch of life out of my rubbers.
When one side is starting to leave trail, I flip it. When that side is starting to go, I trim the burnt ends off down to the channel. This gives me a little more out of each side.
This is for commercial. I like to use a fresh rubber for residential. So when going from commercial to residential, I wil take toss the half spent rubber in my bucket and put in a new one. When back to commercial, I can pull the used one out of the bucket and drain the rest of life out of it.
With commercial it kinda depends on the quality off glass. Even some commercial glass requires a new rubber. It also depends on how often it will be cleaned. I use a new rubber on quarterlies and use an older one on weekly.
for someone that says “I have a crew”, shouldnt you have the experience to know.
New one after every full day on my main squeegee the 18 inch. I dont have to change my 12 or 6 inch nearly as often.
Sharen,
We don’t have any definite rules here. Basically my guys look at the blades each morning and determine if they need a new one based on the wear of the edges.
Matt. I do have the experience to know and I know what I do - I was asking what everyone else did… should I run all my new posts by you first? I was under the impression that I could ask whatever I wanted…you dont have to reply if you think its a stupid question…but thanks for taking the time to :D…
You tell em Sharen!
Myself I just play it by sight.
for me it can vary by temps, time of year, and soft vs. hard rubber. I’m always watchin the performance. Not pleased time to change.
I can go 3 days on a 16’’ blade. It all depends on what and how much you do.
I am still a newbie so might sound dumb but… Is there a certain sign that you need to change “rubbers”?
I always throw the old rubbers in the footwell in the truck & the largest get cut down to around half the size - but trimming from the ends inwards. I’ll also change the rubbers on a need to basis. I’m really surprised how hard wearing the Wagtail rubber & LFI rubber is from WCR. If I had employees I’d probably throw them a rubber a day in the bucket, many users push to hard on the rubber anyway (myself included at times when I get tired), but you will find some use more than others depending on technique.
When you start leaving trails, over-detailing & your work is slowing down, it’s a sure sign to change the rubber. I found I can go twice as fast on a new rubber than one that’s about to give up the ghost.
ok
Whenever I start leaving more water on the glass its time to flip or change. Sometimes the blade gets nicked by something and thats the end of it. I hate changing rubbers but what the heck.
Like some of the guys said, when you start leaving trails, if its not doing a good job, if the edges are rounded, they should be squared. I also find myself pressing too hard sometimes, that wears them down too. Its such a difference when you change to a new one and BTW there arent any dumb questions ,in my opinion, thats what this forums for. Take care:)
For me the rubber tells me when it is finished. I can tell immediately when it needs to be turned or tossed. I have never went through a rubber in a day (in more than a decade) unless it was flawed.
In the summer I go through a lot more than spring, fall and winter (obviously)
usually daily
Change. Em when they need it.
I 'd change them everyday if I had a warehouse full of them…
Peace

Cleaning Windows is Just My Job, Not My Life…
My favorite part was when Sharen smacked the piss out that guy…
That made me smile for some reason.
(gotta love a good 'ole ‘piss smacking’)
