How often do you change your rubber

Everyone does things different, and I’m fine with that. But “one per day” seems to have the lead over the penny pinchers…

And yes, anyone from WA state if you want to make the trip to Spokane, I’ll give you the one day used rubbers.

1 a day residential, maybe every other day on storefront. I just love that new-rubber feel, worth the $3 to make my day that much easier

out weekly (sometimes longer) and that’s with a lot of use. Sometimes I flip them a few days in depending how they are wearing.

I have used a lot of Unger rubbers as well and I’ll have to say that I had to change them out almost once a day because they started to get too worn and leave streak lin

I’ve used the Swedish guys rubbers and the Soren rubbers from Ettore. The Soren last longer.

Thanks Tony, I’ll have to try the Soren. I’m assuming they fit the

The Slayer and Sorb are identical. So yes they will fit.

Do you turn it over or do you feel more generous using one side?

What does that mean?

Holy cow! You don’t know what turning the rubber over means. There are 2 edges to every rubber…not one.
You need me.

Of course I turn it over. I’m not new to this. I was asking what this means “do you feel more generous” You know the part I bolded

Merv - What did you vote for. Are you in the 2 week category? Also you never responded to the construction clean debate. How do you perform these duties? Trying to figure out how you would cause more wear/tear on your rubber. My method is very kind on the rubber.

  1. Wet window
  2. 6 inch triumph razor hitting every inch.
  3. Wet and squeegee
  4. wipe edges

The glass is as smooth as a baby’s butt before my squeegee ever touches it.

it

You used the word penny pinchers. I figured you must think you are the opposite…a big spender.

So you turn the rubber over but can’t get more than a day using both sides. That is strange to me but ok…carry on.

LOL - Yep that’s me, big spender $2 a day

I could use the same rubber for a week, two weeks, hell I could probably get a month out of it. But my point is I’m losing precious seconds that add up to hours using a day old rubber.
Rubber costs $2
Hours are worth $60 to $100
I work way faster, make less mistakes, and don’t leave as much to touch up using a new rubber. It really is a no brainer for me.

I used the word penny pincher because it’s the only thing that makes sense to me. I’ve used rubbers with round corners, nicks, etc… and know you lose seconds per window. Why would I use this rubber unless I was totally out, or I wanted to save the $2 bucks… I know the next thing coming will be “You have figured out how to use the rubber without making these mistakes I speak of” Well if that’s the case then good for you, I’m 100% happy with my method and I’d be willing to race ya big fella  Loser buys the other guy a gross. Or if I lose I’m sure you would except a gross of used ones.

I was wondering why some guys get so much more mileage out of their rubber than others. Perhaps it has something to do with how much soap we use. I believe Merv likes to use a lot of soap and gets great milage. Tony Evans uses just a little soap and gets very low mileage. Does anybody out there use just a little soap, low suds, and get more than a day or two out of their rubber?

I’m one that uses very little soap (a super-concentrate formula from one of the friendly competitors- sorry :()
I would say i have very little suds, and use my rubber well beyond the expected lifespan (1-2 weeks of solid work)

Lol! The title of this thread throws me for a loop every time I come across it.

For me it all boils down to as Justin said - saving time. If I use dish soap I have to detail more. Same deal if I use my rubber too long. It’s a case of penny wise pound foolish.

Well I have to plead my ignorance. I didn’t know. But if I had known (or if it had said in the description) then I would have already ordered hundreds of dollars of equipment from WCR. Instead I ordered a bunch of stuff elsewhere mainly because I needed the right rubbers. I know I don’t order a lot of stuff, but I wonder if anyone else hasn’t ordered from WCR because of a similar situation. It’s probably a drop in the bucket for WCR, but I’ve gained a lot of valuable information here and would have liked to have placed my orders here. Oh well.

If I become aware of any soap or rubber that is causing me to work harder, I change it.
It is a matter of awareness.

The question is whether I am seeing it as it really is or not.

If I see that my rubber is causing me more work, it is changed, but I am not going to change it because
someone else sees it. I have to see it for myself. It should be that way with all of us. We need to see things for ourselves.
Thinking something is true does not make it true. It is the seeing that makes the difference.

Follow your own seeing.

This is another thing I’m working on. A couple good friends I work with from time to time (Very experienced) always get on my case when I use too much soap. They claim more soap leaves more suds which cause more wiping. I’ve never really noticed and just assumed the wiping was part of my technique, but you really do spend a lot of time wiping sills, frames, etc… They still use Dawn, just not as much as I like. I like glide  But may be making a change soon.

What do you use Tony? No suds? This is the same scenerio as the new verses used rubber debate. If I can cut an hour a day off my time by using a non sud solution, I’m all over it. Glass Gleam, Sorbo Glide or any of those cost more than dawn. But again if it’s saving one person just 30 minutes a day and it doesn’t cost more than $30 a day to use = Another no brainer!! But man I love the Glide Dawn gives me…
