How to repair scratches?

Customer is claiming we scratched their window, and of course it’s $1,300 for a new one.

Anyone ever successfully dablle in removing scratches? Google says toothpaste, but it’s a little bit deeper than that can handle. I can’t find any local repair people/companies either.

Any advice on products to use or not use would great. Thanks!!!

GlassRenu and a Makita Variable Speed Polisher. I have a brand new set that I got in case I scratch one, but I haven’t had to use it in 4 years. Where are you located?

Southeast MI.

Just out of curiosity, did you scratch their window?
If not, I wonder if it’s worth the hassle of trying to fix it unless:
A. Your getting paid to do it
B. You know what your doing
C. Your actually liable for the damages they’re claiming

Just a thought.

Hard to say. They’re pretty OCD people, and say they didn’t notice it before.

I had an employee cleaning that window, and he jumped when he saw a wasp. Makes me wonder if his metal channel hit the window. If that didn’t happen, I’d accuse the customer of lying. But there is a chance we did it.

That’s terrible, I’m sorry to hear that.

I’m in Kentucky. If you’re interested, I have the following items:
GlassRenu Professional Kit - new and unopened $250 retail
GlassRenu Red Disk 5" x3 - new, bought individually $13 retail
GlassRenu Polishing Felt Pad 5" - new $32 retail
Fluke 62 MAX IR 10:1 Thermometer - used, excellent condition $92 retail
Makita 9237CX2 7-Inch Variable Speed Polisher - used once to wax my truck, like new condition $170 retail

I can ship them all for $450 if you are interested. I have been meaning to go grab some used windows to practice on from ReStore, but I’ve been super busy and I have a feeling I won’t need this anytime soon…

I wonder if it wouldn’t be cheaper to just look into glass replacement - not replace the whole window. They would keep the frame but insert a new plate of glass at 1/4 the cost.

Again though, I would investigate first if it was caused by you

Around here, I’ve seen a cracked window being replaced for as little as $100. Definitely something you can explore. If they’re ocd, I’d see if you can have the dealer of the window brand you’re dealing with to do the work.

If they are OCD there is a really good chance they will not be happy with the scratch removal, it leaves a wave in the glass, which can be seen from the right angle.

I suggest finding a company that can buff it out rather than buy the gear, get poor results and then have to pay someone to fix it. Make sure the customer will be happy with the little ‘wave’ that will be present after.

Ive taken a deep scratch out with meguiars car polish and a Variable speed buffing wheel… came out nice

Couldn’t find a company to do the repair. And since it has been advised that buff marks may be left, I decided to buy them a new chunk of glass. Yayy… And thank you for offering to sell your scratch removal kit.

Buy cerium oxide powder. Mix with water and apply to felt buffer pad and buff window in 1 square foot sections for 10 min per section. This WILL fix that. I scratched & ACID ETCHED a giant window. I did this to the whole window and it looks good as new.

Hey if they still havent done it you need to look at my comment. You can fix that for under $100 with cerium oxide and a drill buffer.

Hey I would buy your glassrenu kit if your still selling.

Sure, if you send me your PayPal email via private message, I can send you the pictures of everything and send you a money request.

That is why you carry insurance.
