Another great video, Dave.
Alot of wrist work ringing it out, too bad there isn’t a way to just dampen it by spraying with fine mist. How many times a day do you go thru that motion?

I always start off with mine dry. I just can’t wrap my head around the idea something damp will detail to dry.
In other words. Dry(towel) + wet(glass edge) = dry. This makes sense to me.
Damp(towel) + wet(glass edge) = dry. does not make sense to me.
I’m not saying you damp guys are full of it. It just seems like a strange concept. Can someone explain it to me scientifically and not just “because it works.”
Also, would it make a difference if it colder or damp outside like right now going into winter?
Hey there Mark,
Give it a try you just may like it !

I started with mine dry and it worked great ,but now I use it litely damp and it works Waaaaaaaaaaaaay BETTER. Try it you’ll like it !
Mark , actually we are full of it…Full of what works stupendously ! I’m No scientist, but Mark have you ever used a Leather Chamois ? They do need to bet damp in order to work and the Scrim can work the same…Give it a try, you’ll like it !
Mark you teach here, but as a cleaner for 32 years I continue to learn and that’s one of the main points at being a cleaner, learning new tricks and processes.I continue to learn ! Just this year I learned about the scrim I was open to it so I tried it and now I love it , the same goes to it being damp !
Mark you teach the things that you learn ! Learn about the beauty of the dampness by trying it !
It’s been freezing here in the morning for about 5 different days in Nov. 32, and not a problem yet, also we’ve had some heavy rain and no prob at all ! Actually rain wets a dry towel and that don’t matter with a damp Mr. Scrim Gem !
One last point Mark , You hear how not cutting the scrim messes it up , have you stuck with that, no you haven’t and now you like it being cut ! So you tried it and now you like it !

Hello Pane Cleaner,
It aint that tough to ring out… Maybe once, if I need to rinse it, It really isn’t hard to do and if you wrap the ringed out scrim in another scrim or even a towel, within minutes you’ll have it ready to work damp !
Those are old videos of my learning process, I’ll make a new on how I dampen my scrim now !
Mangey-Dangey
Hey Mark,
I hear ya! Who’s going to jump into the deep end of the pool with Dangerous Dave, you or me?
Mark - you hit the nail on the head. From what I understand from other UK guys there is a “critical saturation point” for best results. In other words it has to be just right. That seems like a lot of work when the simple formula of dry is dry works every time.
Oh and here’s a simple scientific principle for a dry scrim - nature abhors a vacuum. If you touch something dry to something wet the moisture levels of both will try to even out.
If one has never given dampness a try they are limited in their understanding of the potential of the dampness ! Being open to new processes is a key element to being a window cleaner. Until one will try it they are in the dark, limited about its true greatness !
Those with a Mr.ScrimGem give it a try and you’ll truly see the beauty and effectiveness of it being litely damp !
DR. Dange
Thanks to Dange i now use a scrim instead of micro fiber! Nice thread
Hey Phil,
If you look at the video about when I went with the scrim and trashed the huck you’ll see in my van my belt hanging in the truck on the right side. you’ll also see my Natural Sea-Sponge hanging there on the belt in a unger pouch ! Well that’s what I use to carry my sponge when I don’t have it in my hand ! On this thread the video I speak of is the second one down !
Dr. Dange
Your welcome Joey, how do you like the Bull Ring ?
Oh by the way it is a good thread, James/localwindowcleaner started it, and spoke about using the scrim damp ! Try it out that way…
Your friend / Dange-Ster
I don’t carry a bucket around the interior of a house (squeeze bottle in an Unger ErgoTec bottle holder.)
I carry a sponge in an AWP nylon pouch, purchased at Lowe’s for about $8.00.
This debate has been going on for years in the UK and I doubt you will be the one to settle it. I’ve been using scrim for quite a while and am very satisfied w/ the results I get from a dry scrim. If you like constantly adjusting the moisture level of you detailing towel to do the job more power to you.
As for being in the dark - I try new tools and techniques constantly but if you think I’m in the dark because I prefer to use the towel in the way it was intended I’m OK w/ that. In fact I’d bet it puts me in the best of company.
Give it a try Yawl, that should settle it for you !!!
Tony, I used the word “One” meaning anyone and that was not directed at you only but to everyone who isn’t going to try a new process. If your open to new processes Tony as you say you are then give this a try …Until you do there is no way you can speak negatively about a damp Scrim.
Granted I do believe the dry scrim works really good, way better then any other towel out there. Buuuuuuuuut the damp SCRIM is way better then a dry one and that comes from having used it both ways !
Why not jump on board and join the damp team !
DR.Dange / Highly Trained and open to new processes
P.S.
I’m not constantly adjusting the moisture level Tony…The old timers in the U.K. encourage to use it damp and was it was their intention to train the greenhorn !
Not all the old timers used it damp, Dange. For me it makes no sense to try your method since we have freezing temps for a few months of the year and a wet towel freezes and is useless. Why then would I use it when I can just use them the way I do now and not have to change for a few months of the year.
I don’t carry a bucket either. Just wondering about the sponge. I do have an Unger pouch, That will work. Thanks. Now, where can I find a sea sponge? WCR does not appear to carry them anymore.
Thats because Dange’s video’s are always 30 mins long and its hard to not skip parts
Dange, I respect your opinions and your experience, but sometimes it seems like you just want to continue to hear yourself talk. You made your point, why do you care if Tony uses wet / dry? He is running and growing a successful business, so he’s obviously doing something right. Not trying to offend you, just leave it go
The bull ring is great, the scrim stays put and out of the way.
I’ve tried the damp scrim and dry as well. I can’t decide which I prefer. It did occur to me though that if you choose to use the ‘damp’ scrim method, then surely it would make more sense to dampen it with a spray bottle, rather than completely saturate it, then wring it out. Could save you some time.
I read a lot more than I post.
I see some members who are long winded, some abrasive, some innovative and some just looking for a little help.
