I saw an episode of “Shark Tank” (on ABC) a while back and there was a guy who designed a quick connect coupler for hydrants and also for garden hose outlets- anyone here ever try one? I really hate threading on the hose to my pure water system at the jobsite and this looks like the perfect solution- Thoughts, comments?

Looks interesting. I wonder if it leaks though.
looks pretty cool
I loves me my EZ Snap QCs!
I use standard-size auto-off brass QCs for supply hose ad required. Durable and $5 or so at my local Ace Hardware.
So Ace sells a QC that connects right to a garden hose facet?
Booyah! I use 'em too, very nice.

Thems the plastic ones, Shawn. I use the brass (also auto shut-off.)
Sweet!
Ahh yes, well I use the plastic ones, that’s why I posted the link to those. I didn’t know they made “auto shut-off” quick connects. How does that work?
Disconnect and the flow of water stops (even with source water “on.”) There are plastic models with that feature.
What I use:
Garden Hose Couplers, Brass Quick Connect Couplers With Automatic Shut-off, 1 Male, 1 Female
I think some of you are confused(or maybe me) the hyconn does not require any twisting/threading to attatch to the garden hose outlet- it simply snaps over the threads. The ace style quick connects posted(which almost everyone has) you still have to thread the base or female end of the quick connect on the garden hose outlet…there was a reason the guy was offererd a million+ for his product
I’m not confused – my brass QCs attach very quickly, are auto shut-off, and are prolly more durable than “high quality plastic.”
You’re right – they are available everywhere, so ease of replacement if required is an added benefit.
Oh, and I never have a reason to place it on the water source fixture. I use it further down the line. For example, I can disconnect multiple hoses or my RO/DI cart and not have to spend back-and-forth time to turn off the water first.
Not sure what I’d really be gaining with a different product, though I love purchasing new tools (even if they subsequently sit…)
I have quick connects and shutoffs on every water connection. I carry shutoffs on my belt. If I have to connect two or more hoses together I always use a shutoff so I can remove and move hoses without going to bib to shut water off.
All my nozzles are set up like this…
No offense guys, I understand about your quick connects- in fact I myself and probably everyone else who does pure water already has the quick connects you guys have mentioned/showed. Please look at the webpage and read it-and look at the picture carefully- this is not the average quick connect- like I said before there is a reason the guy is getting millions for the patent/idea:p
HyConn - A super-fast connector for fire hydrants and garden hoses
with that being said I really was just curious if anybody has tried one, but judging by the comments…probably no lol
Yes, I think the HyConn one is unique. I already have regular QCs for garden hoses. I want one like the HyConn so that I can hook to a customers water facet without having to sit there messing with their rusty/corroded facet threads.
Ok, I went back and realized I didn’t watch the video of Shark Tank. I see what you’re saying. Personally I see the big deal regarding it’s use for fire fighting, but I don’t see a huge benefit over the Ace brand or comparable quick connects for just hooking up garden hose to water bibs on homes. My original response was just to what WoodsyWindows posted: “So Ace sells a QC that connects right to a garden hose facet?”. I wasn’t referring to the Hyconn product.
Bronze bibs may corrode, but they won’t rust.
I can prolly count on one hand the number if times I had a real issue accessing a customer’s hose bib. Typically, it’s removing their crappy hose.
Your right about the rust;)
And I can count on less than one hand the number of times I have had a real issue connecting my hoses and WFP-- yet I still like having quick connects on them. It’s just nice to have I guess. May not save much time, but it’s one less thing I have to mess with.
I see what all of you are saying. I really think if it’s not extremely expensive I’d get one for sure. It usually is the customer’s hose that’s a pain to get off, but what I typically also find is the actual spigot being so close to the wall or it’s valve that I can cut up my fingers just getting it on and off. The hyconn would be a major advance in this setting.
I’m not sure the fitting design is really worth more than $1M. After all, it took a reality dhow and Mark Cuban to get there.
EDIT: I’m referring to the garden hose portion. Looks like the firehouse portion is a true value-add to public safety.
I agree with Dan – if it’s reasonably priced and manufactured with quality (and in the USA!), I’m sure I’ll purchase some.
Thanks for the heads-up.
