I bent a client's screen...need help fixing/replacing

Hi everyone, I had a job today and after washing a bunch of screens, some wind blew them over and bent one slightly. It is bent enough though that when you put it back in, it looks bad. Since I would like to consider myself a professional, I want to fix/replace this.

The screen is a rectangular one for a casement window. It is a kind of a bronze/brown color. I went to home depot and the dude there was slightly more helpful than offering no help at all. Can anyone offer me some options/suggestions on this one?

Ace Hardware. Or you can buy the stock at Home Depot or Lowes and rebuild it yourself.

I would try to call a mobile screen repair. If you can get in good with a mobil screen repair guy/gal he might be able to give you a discount if you throw him some business that needs more than 1 screen. I network with screen / tinting people and throw a bunch of work at them both but they also throw a bunch of new work my way also.
Is there a ACE HARDWARE close by you ? They redo screens and also make screens. How much they charge i really do not know .

ACE runs about 35 bucks to repair a side and rescreen. If I can get to New Orleans for Thad’s next event, I will do a screen rebuild/rescreen demo. I prolly do 5 screens a week. I have done close to 100 in the last 5 weeks. I just completed 17 screens for a lady who wanted them rescreened and painted to match the trim on her house. What we do for our customers, eh?

We use Ace Hardware when we damage one lol

It probably would not hurt to learn how to rebuild your first one…I promise you it won’t be the last.

I agree completely…Where do you buy the materials? I went to Home Depot and the guy there told me he did not think they could order what I needed (due to color and size).

what is the color and what is the size of the frame material?

sounds like the color is Bronze. (that’s the blackish color in the screen world, or some people call it charcoal) there are usually 3 regular size frames, 5/16, 3/8, and 7/16. just go to ace hardware, take the screen with you and have them take out some new frame to match it to the bent one. you can measure how much you need, and they can cut it right there for you, whether it’s got plastic corners (they have those there too) or if it’s mitred at the corners (they have metal corners that go inside the frame, also available at ace). I took a dozen or so screens to Ace before I decided to start trying to build and repair them myself. It’s been a very worthwhile endeavor to watch them rebuild your screen and just buy some simple tools and try it out yourself. It’s not that hard, and as soon as you start doing it yourself you’ll not only notice more bent screens at homeowners’ homes but you’ll be more apt to care what condtion screens are in, cause you’ll want to let every homeowner you work for know how you “can fix that” for them. Good add-on to window cleaning in my opinion.

Great add on for extra money. It’s very easy to learn and profitable. Ace, lowes and Home Depot carry what you need. There are several videos on you tube and here on WCR that show you how to rebuild and rescreen

Home Depot and Lowes only stock very basic colors and styles. Often to make a new screen for Pella or Anderson windows you won’t find what you need at those stores. Is the frame a basic rectangle shape or does it have an additional lip on the side. What kind of latches/springs/clips hold it in place?
Do you have the screen with you, can you post up a pic?

Here’s 2 videos that I looked at to learn to rebuild screens.

It’s a great add on to learn.

I offer screens as an add on. Only problem you’re going to run into is finding the frames in that color.

Best bet, go to HD and buy a new one.
