Thanks for you advice before.
I got an insurance quote for a General Liability 1 million dollar policy of $920 per yr, 25% down and 9 monthly payments…
Any recommendations on companies that you guys use that are cheaper? Is it normal to pay a 25% downpayment?
I pay $490/year with American Family. 12 monthly payments of $43 and change. They don’t cover all states though. A friend of mine in Mississippi couldn’t get covered by them.
I see that you are new here, I am asuming that this is your first policy? Your quote was good. Yes, first policies are expensive! There are a couple things you should think about first before you get it,
1- Make sure you dont need to pay for certs for additional insured
2- Ask if your policy gets cheaper every year
I use Safeco ( American Eagle ) and have 2mil general, and 1mil commercial auto. For the general I pay 400 for the year and for the auto I pay 165 a month, that is a 50 dollar deductable for collision and 150 dollar deductable for comprehensive, plus 100.00 a day rental re-embursment!!
If you want my insurance guys number give me a call and I will give it to you. (619)634-9580.
The first year I payed almost 1500.00. But it went down EVERY year, and I need about 30 certs sent out every year, and they are free.
I pay $900 a year for insurance on window cleaning and pressure washing. For my equipment, it’s an additional $900 per year (that’s for my WFP setup, pressure washer, expensive poles, etc.). I’ve also had to add workers comp. because some companies require it, regardless of whether you have employees or not. This is also about $1,000 a year.
Just as an FYI, my first policy was for general janitorial work and they dropped me when they found out I was a window cleaner. So I found a company that would insure me for very specific window cleaning activities, for instance, window cleaning under 4 stories with a ladder - yes, the policy is that specific. Make sure that you mention precisely what service you intend to perform. You shouldn’t have to pay insurance as a high-rise WC’er if you aren’t one.
I hate the cost of insurance, btw.
My insurance agent was looking at different policies with several companies, one company had what sounded like a good deal, only to find out that you could only do up to 1 story. Do your homework and make sure your agent is doing his or hers.
I saved some money by lowering my coverage from 1 mil to 600,000. When I looked back at what my commercial accts wanted, none of them required 1 mil so why was i paying for it? I also got a lower rate staying 4 stories and below. Nationwide is who I have.
Roughly $1200 per year but I have addtional riders. For the liability 2mil/1mil I think it’s around $500 and change. Brian does a lot of window cleaning companies insurance so he won’t ripped you off. Many companies really have no idea what you are going to be doing so they bump up the charge or just blanket you with other service companies. Your quote should be estimated on projected income for the 1st year. After that they will audit you an adjust the policy either up or down.
We pay a shade over $1,400 a year, which is a steal considering that’s for “Unlimited height,” $2mil aggregate, and all tools coverage.
It’s a little tricky to find an unlimited height policy, actually. In fact, you shouldn’t just take your agent’s word for it when they tell you the underwriter “insures you for up to such-and-such stories/feet.”
Our previous agent sold us an “Unlimited height” policy, yet we found out after a few months that the underwriter actually was insuring us for only “up to 5 stories,” as was their policy.
This guy does my business and my truck ins…i found he was the cheapest but at the same time i can get more coverage at the same price for less coverage everywhere else. I have full coverage on my truck (there is a lein) and 1 mil liability for about 1300 a year for both.
We just changed our insurance to 2 million and added pressue washing and it brought it to $970.00yr. I had quotes up to $1,800yr just because nobody wants to cover pressure washing.
I thought these prices being thrown around were so low because of where all of you lived. Then I saw your thread and that you are also in NJ. I’m ashamed to admit how badly I am getting hosed! Calling that guy tomorrow.
I’m starting a WC company and have been getting quotes for arount 950 month. Liability 1mil 2mil agg. But one insurance agent told me liability only covers accidents like knocking over a vase in a custom home not if a customer says you scratched their glass or ruined their windows for what ever reason. He told me I would need a extra package called care custody and controll and that insures up to 25k. Does this make sense?
