I’m new to the business just bought tools and waiting for my marketing post cards and business card to arrive before I pound the pavement to get some work. My question is when cleaning inside of clients windows do you remove blinds, curtains ect. or do you ask the client to remove them for you before you clean ???
I raise blinds and move curtains over but i don’t remove anything. i do tell some clients that we are extremely careful and respectful of their property but accidents can happen so if there are any items they care for they should remove them. Most customers even remove things that are not valuable after i tell them that and it can be somewhat humorous watching them move pillows and insignificant items out of my way.
99% of the time there is no reason to remove either. You will need to work around blinds and curtains. If thats the worse thing in your way consider yourself lucky. If you spend time moving every little thing you’ll never get anything done.
The main thing is you MUST be neat and clean when working inside. You must pay strict attention to what your doing.
You have to practice being neat, just like you practice cleaning windows. New wc dont take this skill into consideration.
Hope this helps.
You just have to be aware of yourself and what your doing.
The only thing you should leave behind is clean windows.

Watch your holster/bucket on a belt… if I had a nickel for every time I saw some rookie slap into something, I’d probably have about $2 bucks.
The nice thing about them- it’s like an natural extension of your body, you don’t even notice they’re there.
The bad thing about them- it’s like an natural extension of your body, you don’t even notice they’re there!
I agree with what been said so far. I almost never have to remove blinds or drapes. I just work as carefully as possible around my clients property and move things only when necessary.
Thanks for the feedback this helps.
Just be aware that depending on the type of windows, I have had to remove blinds in order to remove some storm windows before (clearance issues). Also have come across folks that have after market plantation shutters installed and there windows have screens that are only removable from the interior. The one I did had tilt in double hung windows but had like -10 clearance, all window locks had to be removed to remove screens, customer was okay with a cleaning and storage of all screens, so it makes her quarterly cleans a breeze, but would add at least a good 1- 1 1/2 hours for removal clean and replace all screens and lock hardware. Also remember that sometimes blinds are installed half-a@%@ed and they can come crashing down on you when you touch that string. (Love those)
I have a huge carpentry bag that I wear outside with mini pry bar, scraper, a bunch of rags, squirt bottle, extra rubber, ect. and a smaller, flater Unger bag that I use inside with a tote to hold other necessities.

This a little off topic but I thought it might save you a real problem. The carpet is a bigger issue. Make sure you don’t drip dirty water on the carpets. We put a clean towel down if there is white carpet. If you are very careful you can prevent drips but being new to homes I would be extra safe with the carpet. There is greater chance of issues with the carpet than curtains.
Regarding the carpets and spots, the Magic Eraser is amazing for getting spots even out of white carpets!
Keep in mind that if you break anything you will be responsible for it.
One of my first jobs I knocked over a lamp lol but 3 years later they still use me every year
