IPC Screen Cleaner and Solar Screens

Seeking feedback on results from those who use the IPC unit with solar screens.

Im going to take a stab at this. Although I havent used the screen cleaner before. I have been cleaning sun screens for 16 years and Im going to sayit will barley make a dent in a dirty sun screen. I have soaped up scun screens, rubbed, brushed, scrubbed, Power washed, and spit on trying to find an better way to clean them and the answer… SCREEN MAGIC. I just had 7 fairly good sized sun screens today that were FILTHY. hadnt been cleaned in probably 5 years or more. took a little more screen magic than normal to break down all the dirt but by far it was much faster and the screens looked like brand new. I charged $45 extra to clean them and used maybe $3 to $4 worth of screen magic. Pretty good roi I think.

I personally not heard of anyone using the screen cleaner on sun screens yet. I am in WI so I have never even seen a sun screen (sorry) so I can’t help.

Thanks, Doc, I was thinking the same.

These are oversized on a cafe, and face a parking lot just off a very busy street.

Figured I’d sell quarterly cleanings…

Hello. I was wondering if anybody had recently tried the new IPC screen washer 2 on sunscreens or solar screens in Arizona. I know this was asked before but that was three years ago so I figured I’d try again. Also for the screen magic users in Arizona, do you still have to brush the screens really well before applying the screen magic?

Also, I wanted to mention that I just started posting and I appreciate this website and everybody’s knowledge and feedback. Thank you.

Try Speedy Screen.

It is a better version of screen magic. With a much better anti static. Which seemed to be the problem i ran into with screen magic was the static cling. And no you can just spray it on and let dry or even it out with a dry strip washer.

I have tried the screen washers on sunscreens and it took forever to clean them that way, plus they never dried quite right. And for some of the oversized sunscreens the middle was a pain to wash. The screen washers work great on the bug screens.

The only other way I found was to use Tide with the bleach alternative and get a small floor brush and scrub and rinse, scrub and rinse. And repeat. The sunscreen comes out pretty good but it is super time consuming.

I can’t speak for the other parts of the country but with a the dust around here Speedy Screen works great and is much faster.

Steve Belcastro I’ve been meaning to build a solar screen for a while now and try it out. Maybe I’ll get a chance this weekend. I’ve been having a regular meeting with a nice Jehovah Witness couple and my weekends are usually spent researching and compiling information from church history for them (we have great discussions!).

But I’ll try and get one built. The problem that I see is that the mesh is so fine that a nylon brush is going to have a hard time getting a good scrub on it. I went with a very small bristle (0.014) compared to IPC’s (I think it’s 0.030) because I felt it would give a better scrub on the bug screens. But mine is still probably too big for the solar screens. I’ve thought of offering my screen washer with a horse hair option which would probably work a lot better on solar screens. The only problem is that option would add about $120 bucks to the price since those brushes are pricey. Plus I’m not sure whether those brushes would retain their form or start to “lay down.”

Humm, just thinking about it… one option might be to replace only 2 brushes with horse hair and the nylon might help the horse hair retain its shape. One horse hair on each side. And by only replacing 2 of the brushes, the price would only increase by about 60 bucks and it might give a wicked good scrub on all screens.

mattolmschenk Thanks for reminding me. I ordered a trial sized version of speedy screen like 3 months ago and still haven’t gotten it. I probably need to check on that. I wanted to check it out and compare it to screen magic cuz SM was the suck.

I am totally with ya on Screen Magic. I really liked this product, but upon return it was a nightmare to reclean.

I was concerned Speedy Screen would produce a similar result to Screen Magic, but I have been pleasantly surprised. I have used them on monthly and quarterly accounts and the screens still look good.

I think you may be on to something with with the hogs hair brushes. Hog hair are the only brushed that seem to work well the the desert with out having to make pass after pass. I am not sure how your washer is set up but, if the brushes could pivot or detach for easy cleaning. We have to clean out our waterfed brush every third day, sometimes more often. I can foresee the cobwebs and the dirt building up on the brush and dragging that dirt through a brunch of screens.

Most of the sunscreens that cover the whole window are a pain to deal with. If you have a house with sunscreens covering all the window welcome to sunscreen hell. Take you time make sure to charge enough, and relax you are going to be there for a while. For all the northerners a similar feeling you get when dealing with storm windows. Fun!

You should contact Speedy Screen, it is fast and gives a good result.

Thanks for the response Matt. Thanks for the tip on speedy screen. I’ll give it a try. I’ve used a product called Lifeguard with good success on sunscreens but it definitely leaves a residue on the windows.

I would be very interested if you ever get a screen washer that works on sun-screens.

Have you ever had any success power washing sunscreens? I’ve tried it once with a 1500 psi power washer without any soap or scrubbing, but that seemed to leave a lot of streaks. The sprays can work good after really dusting the screens but I always think that with all the technology we have there’s got to be a more efficient way to clean sun-screens.

ditto. I really don’t think any kind of brush in a screen cleaner is going to work on sun screens. I just did a house today 25 good size sun screen 4 were for 4x8 sliding doors another 4 picture windows the rest reg windows. Never been cleaned in 15 years. I got an extra $145 for the screens took 35 to 45 minutes with speedy screen to clean them front and back. If I had to walk them all to a screen washer and try and run them through even if it did clean them my guess is it would take hours to get them clean. I don’t know why the dirt doesn’t want to come of sun screens but it doesn’t. We used to pressure wash them with a 40 degree nozzle and a 4000 psi pressure washer. It did ok. It cleaned them better than any other method I had used before but it still took forever, and if they used the wrong spline the pressure would cause the spline to pop out and when u looked at the screen at certain angles once they dried you would see little pie marks were one part was cleaner than the other. I really think the thing u need to look at when cleaning screens is TIME. What is ur time worth and how much is it costing u to clean the screen. I estimate speedy screen saves us 15 to 25 min per home times 6 to 8 homes per day at $75 to $125 an hour works out to be average of 2.3 hours or $$172.50 to $287.50 per day. When u add in the up charge for cleaning sun screens, roller shades and enclosed patios we make at least a grand off of a 5 gallon mix. Time is really money

Great post. I like the real world numbers. Thanks.

what is the shelf life on Speedy Screen?

Do you still have to brush the sun screens really well on both sides before using speedyscreen?

<!–EndFragment–>

I’ve had some 1/2 gallon concentrates in my truck for 6 months mix with water still good. 5 gallons last me abouth a month. U don’t need to brush the screens before using just spray and rub up with a dry strip washer.

Do you apply on both sides of the screen.

Yes, to get the full affect. Bit you can stack 4 - 6 regular screens together or 2 sunscreens back to back and the product sneaks through.

Use a 14 inch strip washer as directed, I used an old ten but it took longer, and the 18 inch didn’t spread evenly over the screen.

Ditto on the 14" strip washer works the best. I have stacked as many as 10 bug screens of the size together

I am in Scottsdale, Arizona and come across LOTS of homes with sunscreens. I know it looks more professional to clean them with soap and water, but I feel like half the time they just come out worse. I’ve tried many different methods but at the end of the day dry brushing each side twice seems to work the best. It also depends on if the sun screens have been maintained. I explain how maintenance is so important on these to my customers and I’ll do my best. Never had one complaint about dry brushing them yet. Wear a mask though =)

Offer to actually clean them. We get from $5 to $15 per screen enclosed patios start at $100 and up. Patio roller shades $50 to $75 each. I usually clean half a screen with speedy screen and show them the difference 99% say do it. I get way to many people who don’t MAINTAIN their sun screens so when we get them black screens are tan screens and soap and water would take all day with zero effect. I had one today hadn’t cleaned their window and sun screens in 10 years. But know they are selling their house. I gave them $145 for windows and and $275 for 12 sun screens. He said no just the windows. I took a screen off their front cleaned half rang the door bell showed him the screen not even 2 seconds after seeing the difference DO IT. Then he went and got his wife to show her how clean they looked couldn’t belive it.
