Is DI Resin Safe?

I just changed out my DI resin again and I keep wondering is it safe to touch that stuff with my hands? Any one know if its safe to touch with your hands or do you need to have gloves on?

I did a job at Camp Pendleton Marine Base Last week and it blew trough my tank. Started at 001TDS and half way through I check it and its over a 1000TDS I had to redo a bunch by hand in the dark.

Best part of the job was the caution sign that read “Tank Crossing”

My experience says you will not die from incidental contact with it. I would not bathe in the stuff though, without knowing what it is more thoroughly. Or even then, probably, since it smells pretty nasty.

Well I had deliberate contact with it while I was filling my tank, it was all over my hands.

I used a cut-off milk jug as a funnel into the tank, and a cup to dump it in.

Me too, but I still got it all over my hands packing it down.

we should do a survey on what it smells like

Poisonous, but when spent - harmless. You can get food grade resin, but not provided in our industry.

So when I put new DI resin in my tank I should wear gloves?

I vote cat pee

Yes. I never have a need to touch the resin, I just pour it in - not that I use it much these days.

When my tank need to be changed it smelled like bad fish.

You don’t have to wear a full haz-mat suit to handle this stuff, but often or not the resin will still contain muriatic or hydrochloride acid & if your hands are were bare & stinging then you’d know why! So you don’t want to be touching your face at any time.

Yeah my hands were stinging, so for now on I will be wearing gloves.
