Is offering a prize drawing to customers successful?

I wonder if it would be a good idea to offer prize drawings during mail-outs.

We’re thinking about different ideas for the spring, and one that we liked was having some sort of drawing. Last year we put coupons on our postcards. What if instead of a coupon, everyone who schedules (a minimum amount) is entered in a drawing? Has anyone ever had any success with this method?

We were thinking of something like tickets to a baseball game or dinner at a nice restaurant. I love baseball, so the tickets appealed to me. In our region, most everyone (that likes baseball) is either a St. Louis Cardinals fan or a Chicago Cubs fan. So I was thinking of tickets to a Cubs-Cardinals game. Kind of a, “Clean windows for her, the chance to go to a game for him.” And if someone isn’t a fan themselves, EVERYone has friends that are.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I did something similar this past August. In our September email blast I offered a $10 gift certificate to a local bread bakery and a can of Sparayaway for anyone who scheduled in August. I also entered all their names into a drawing. At the end of the month I picked one person randomly that won two movie tickets and a $100 gift certificate to one of my favorite restaurants.

It worked out well enough that I’d do it again. The average jobs that were scheduled were just over $500. I can’t remember how many scheduled from the email blast, but I think it was around 10-12.

Not for me it wasn’t. I bought lottery tickets - no ROI at all.

I was thinking about giving away choice of a coach purse or a fancy men’s watch

Stick with food and movie tickets they appeal to everyone.

You guy are mainly talking about residential your good.

Remember companies have policy’s about gifts. Know the policy’s if your talking commercial. You do not want anyone to lose there job over a company promo.

Bump

I thought about a prize drawing once, but found out that in most states you can’t require a purchase to give something away…that is why you can get free monopoly pieces when you go to McDonald’s. Here in the state of Alabama, if you require a purchase than its a form of gambling then and I didn’t want people asking for a free quote just to get their name in the drawing. jmho

Great points

Interesting. Thanks for the input. Incidentally, my wife and I just got a mini schnauzer. She loved that breed. He’s a spunky little guy

It is a great idea. We did a drawing at a local home and garden show for a free house wash. The winner just had his house painted! LOL
