I clean this mirror once a week with an ecover solution and a squeegee (straight horizontal pulls) and just noticed this buildup at the base of the mirror where it slides into the metal bottom track.
I can scrape it away with my fingernail.
Is this a buildup of Ecover or something else?
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Hey Brad,
I think it’s a build up of whatever was on the mirror that your Ecover solution cleaned off? Personally I always use Sprayway to clean all mirrors. Simple, fast and always come out great.
I have to agree, its probably just whatever is on the mirror.
Is that a bathroom? If so, could be air freshener, perfume or something used to wipe down the sink.
I don’t believe its the Ecover.
Normally I would agree that it was something already on the mirror; but I’ve been cleaning this mirror once a week for almost a year.
It’s a guest bathroom that is literally NEVER used!
The only thing that ever gets on this mirror is my cleaning solution.
You may be using to much ecover or not wiping it up enough
If this is the only problem ( when you can call that a problem ) with ecover
just revert back to your old cleaning solution or method for that mirror…
Sorted…
The bigger question is: why do you clean a mirror once a week in a bathroom that is literally never used??
If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there, does it make a sound? Does a bear s**t in the woods?
Why is your question bigger? Six words?

'cause they pay for it?
I vacuum this clients carpets once/week and she can see a micron-sized piece of dust across the room.
Everytime I show up she doesn’t know how it happened but the mirror is ‘filthy’! $$$ for me!
To answer my own question I think I have been using too much ecover. I’ve been squirting a bit of it into a spray bottle for this job and it’s probably too much. The residue came off easily with just a little water and scrubbing.
I like sprayway, but I don’t like how you can’t really scrub with it without it being absorbed by your scrubber.
Don’t scrub with it.
There is another thread about keeping the Ecover agitated. This could be some of your problem.

I have never used a scrubber with it. If a scrubber is needed I just do the traditional method of cleaning with scrubber and squeege. For a once a week or fairly clean window, shake can, spray on, wait a bit and then wipe off with a lint free cotton towel or huck. Or you can also use a squeege to remove it. Sprayway does most of the work for you and the shine it leaves is awesome. IMO
Do you mop and squeegee all the glass on all the windows on your weekly route? If it is part of my agreement with the customer, I do it. If my customer asks if I did them all, I can look them directly in the eye and say, “yes.”
I use sponges or white pads to apply cleaners when I don’t use a mop.
Sprayway still has butyl in it. I am trying to get away from butyl in general cleaners. I get enough exposure to it wading in the pails of floor stripper we go through.
