"It's all Corporate" - how do you handle this?

Starbucks, CVS, Walmart, Sears, major department stores, fast food places, etc, etc.

When bidding on commercial jobs you will inevitably hear that corporate runs everything. So, … how do recommend following up on these types of potential customers??

It seems to be a bit of a rats nest following up on these types. I’m wondering what kind of success you may have had with these accounts and if perhaps they are not even worth the whole process. Right now I’m just giving them my information in hopes it gets carried to whoever it would go to. The decision makers seem to be in an office somewhere 3 states away. I don’t know if they are worth putting all the time and effort in or not. I’m not really pursuing them right now until I get a feel for their worth.

I know sometimes there is a bid process. And the last company I worked for we would bid on scores of jobs for the same company only to end in lots of time and money wasted.

Try asking just who at “corporate” you should be presenting your information to. Ask about the district manager for the area. Provide them with your information. Get as much of you and your company infront of as many managers, district managers, and corporate office types as possible.

I don’t bother. There’s plenty of non-corporate joints around here to keep me busy. The last thing I want to do is start hunting people down for money on storefront jobs lol

ive always given the manager the estimate and theyve given them to corporate…ive never really had to follow up other than w/the mgr. Some are customers now. Just did a job for Macys last week and the guy who i gave the estimate to gave me the ok right there and we did the job. I wouldnt rule out corp. jobs, some are really good money.

Yes, some of these jobs can be very profitable. But I’ve found that to be the exception. Usually quality isn’t their highest concern. Add that to the difficulty of reaching the decision maker, and you’re better off spending your time marketing to a different market.

I will bid on these jobs when they come around, but I don’t go out searching for them.

In the beginning I chased these accounts. Total waste of time!!

I also don’t think its worth the effort.

99% budget-driven with a facade of quality-obsession.

Get the “best service for the best price”.

No thanks.

Only 1% of it is worth having.

Can’t even come close to residential profitability, overall.

I’ve done big and small, and all points in between, and now only recommend residential.

A lot of times I found that it’s built into their lease. The property management company is who you want to go after mostly. I Still don’t chase it, as my time is better spent elsewhere. Property management companies are only worried about cost.
