Jewelry as a safety concern?

I cleaned a second-story condo for an old retired window cleaner today. Really nice guy. Since he was in the business for 30+ years up in New England I asked if he saw anything I could do better.

He said everything was great, but that I might consider working without my wedding ring and steel dive watch. The reason was that he apparently witnessed another cleaner suffer a degloving injury during a minor ladder drop. Ladder caught the ring, ring took the finger. Ouch.

Do you guys and gals wear jewelry while working? In your opinion, how serious is the safety concern?

It happened to my brother, it peeled his ring finger like a banana. Rings and loose jewelry should never be worn when working with tools or ladders ect.

I was told the exact same thing by my uncle many moons ago when he took me under his wing.

Almost had the same experience but my ring is tungsten and didn’t crush. It actually stopped the ladder from dropping more and saved me from breaking my digit
