Hey guys , so I can I take off the reverse osmosis filter from under my kitchen sink and use it out in the field ? Has anyone done that before ? Pros and cons ? I don’t think it’s in use anymore or connected . Here is a picture , if you need me to take more Pics , I can . Thx
Following.
these units don’t have enough flow.
the memebrane in the wash it pro is 2500 gal pday.
home units are sometimes only 20 or 30 gal per day even 100-200 is not enough
Can I at least us the ro or carbon individualy and still get good flow ?
you could run it all day to get some pure water but it’s no where near the volume required
I know that a lot of guys in the UK use these smaller systems to fill a holding tank over night. Then they transfer that to the tank in their van.
RO only won’t give you any advantage with these. That’s the main bottleneck in the system, as I understand it.
Why not hit a water-to-go place and just buy 25 gallons of di water? Then use a backpack to get the job done?
the ro has a very low flow and will be ruined quickly without carbon filter anyway.
Ok got it
Thanks guys for your input . I just relocated to Las Vegas and the water is a lot harder than Los Angeles . I would only use DI tanks and now that the TDS is higher here I need to use an alternative for the mean while I get another unit. Looking at maybe just adding a RO and carbon unit before my Di tank. or might have to buy a water tank and fill up at home .
ro is definitely worthwhile, my wash it ro membrane was failing and i was going through di like crazy.
water here is usually 150-200 ppm.
put in new ro and water is coming out at 22-4 ppm so i have unplumbed the di for now.
ro membrane will be oaid for this year easy with the di savings.
and ya you buy a membrane and housing and might not even need the di.
Las Vegas water is hard as hell, tons of minerals. Not uncommon out there to have readings of 600+.
Basically the under the sink ROs will only produce maybe 30 gallons a day as stated earlier, there isn’t any way to boost it either, its just all that little RO can do. With ROs its all about surface area, the larger the RO or the more ROs sequentially run the more pure water you can produce.
For example, the Hydro Station Triple RO has 3 40" ROs that will produce 6 gallons of pure water per minute! Thats because the surface area of those 3 combined ROs is so great.
Hope this helps
We have always thought the squeegee was our number one tool. The reality is it is water. Which is older than some rocks. It too came from outer space. I probably have water in my body now that was in someone else’s body a thousand years ago.

Alex do you guys sell 40’ ro filters ? I don’t see any . Thx
Thanks for the reply Alex.
We have ROs and housings here.

If you want to set up a 40" like we have it on the Wash-iT, let me know, its about $100 in fittings but it will save you several trips to the plumbing store.
