The rack question in a post before got me thinking of how people store their ladders. Inside or Outside? Hung or on the ground? I am trying to figure out what to do with the extra ladders and where to put them when not being used. Any ideas or pics would be awesome!!
Thanks
I put a couple of hooks on the side of the shed and stored it out there… it is in the shade of a tree… which is the only problem of where it’s kept… always has leaves and stuff dropped on it, so I have to cean it every time I bring it out
Perhaps you could affix a tarp to protect your ladder while stored.
I store mine inside the garage. I put the hooks on the wall inside and hang my ladders. Sorry, don’t have any pics.
We are selling our awesome ladder storage rack - see ebay item Ladder Storage Roller Rack | eBay
I bought a used, full size truck ladder rack off ebay for 50 bucks. I set it on cement pads and store my extra ladders there under a silver tarp.
Spring-Fall I store ladders outside, on hooks on side of garage…but in winter, I built a rack for my basement. It holds 6 ladders and is kind of like a kayak/canoe rack. It works really well, though if i had to build it again, I would have done a different design. Mine was put together quick and is a bit unsteady with ladders off. It also holds my poles on the very top. Much better than pulling ladders out of 6’ of snow.
there has been a run of thieving at weekends in my area. iv had my van broken into twice this year and now iv 2 vans so thats 4 ladder sets
i have up till now had my ladders locked on my my van roofbars but am thinking of bringing them inside at the weekends. only trouble is i lack storage space ,the only place i have room for them all is inside my bedroom ! that might be a romantic turnoff ??
Our new shop has a 16ft ceiling so we just lean them against the wall. At the old shop we kept them on the truck and locked them up and the spares were hung horizontally about 3 ft off the ground with those heavy squared bicycle hooks.
Don’t think this is available yet but I’ll be making a few in the next week or so. 3 car garage and only room for 1 car. This madness has to end.

love the idea. ive seen things like that for pallets. dont think it has to be that fancy. a couple pulleys, rope and an anchor. 10-20 bucks tops.
i use dano hookems (Hook-Um Dano Ladder Locks) for the ladders that i keep on my truck. although not a surefire anti theft device, my bedroom is ten feet from my truck with motion sensors on the driveway and a dog that doesnt care for noises outside my house.
i keep the other ladders in my garage hanging on the wall and on the floor
0:30 sounds like “Lowrider”.
I keep mine outside until winter, locked in my truck. Open bed, no topper.
I use a heavy duty cable, attached to a super heavy chain and lock. Cost’ me about $25 total.
It is plenty to lock up ladders, pressure washers, and anything else.
BTW- Not a lot of crime where I park my truck (and live).
That device looks like the same setup for the ceiling bike pulley system…and american van also sells a ladder hooking system for van ceilings, but I bet it could be retrofitted.
