Ladders in rain?

who here leaves there alluminum ladders on their truck in the rain an bad weather? an who puts them away?

We have 5 trucks that sport ladders. They only come off in the winter when its icy and snowy. The rain isn’t really going to do major damage to them.

Get in the habit of inspecting your ladder(s) before and after each use.

+1

We get plenty of rain, drizzle and dew where I live. The only reason I take a ladder off the truck at night and get it under cover is if I know I am taking it inside a home/business the following morning/day. I’ll still have to wipe it down and make sure it is clean and dry but it saves me some time.

Rain is not really going to effect the aluminum of the ladder. It will rust up the footings though. As Larry said inspect it often. Aluminum can get hairline stress cracks at the joints and you wont know about it until you hear it break or you are on your back. My aluminum is my fav as it’s light and easy to handle but since my WFP it rarely comes off the truck anymore. So it stays out in the weather. In the winter all equipment comes inside in the basement. Saves the EQ and saves on gas.

I had to leave my beloved pine and hickory ladders back in the UK when I came over here. All my ladders were hand made with pine stiles and hickory rungs. maintenance was a simple coat of yacht varnish every few years and a periodic spray of WD40 to the metal parts to keep rust at bay. Timber ladders are heavier I will concede but you can use them on a windy day when an aluminum will simply blow over when left unattended while you re-dip or wring out your cloth. They also don’t conduct electricity!

Wooden sectionals are available in the US.

Where?

Yes it is

Thanks

I live in the salt… and I would’nt worry about it, just make sure they are locked down.
