Leaking WFP Quick Connects

Hi fellow wfpers! I cant seem to plug my quick connects with enough plumbers tape to stop the little leaks of oh so precious 000 ppm pure water! Whats your experience with leaky quick connects?

Thanks!

So it’s leaking at the threads? Did you buy these quick connects youself locally? You apply the tape first before thread the connectors, right? Just making sure I understand things. Any pics?

Hey Mark, hope you well. These are Home Depot quick connects. I first tried to feed the two short brush hoses into the quick T connect and then the pole hose. That`s where it is leaking. Quite a bit too. I then took them out and wrapped the hose ends with different thicknesses of white plumbers tape. It still leaks.

I gave up on the quick connects and changed everything out to 5/16th hose barbs with o-clamps around them and wrapped in black Gorilla Tape so they dont snag on everything. Working just fine now:)

Hmmm…my quick connects are from Home Depot, maybe different tho. Any chance for a pic? A picture speaks a thousand words, eh.

Here`s a link to the quick connect: Watts | Quick Connect Union Tee 3/8 In. CTS | Home Depot Canada

Are you using the right size hose to fitting? They shouldn’t leak, if they’re old and if you haven’t already, try new ones. If that doesn’t work, a basic barbed t fitting will work just fine.

Is this what you mean?</SPAN>

As you can see that you can use small zip ties to hold the hoses onto the barbs.

My bad, I’m using brass snap on quick connect at the end of the hose, not the brush end. i was a confused. :frowning: totally different scenario.

I have found that the quick connects from the depot are not the correct size for the hoses. I know with all my poles the QC’s never fit. I ended up replacing all the hose on all the poles to fit standard plumbing sizes. One thing you need to look out for. These QC’s are not really designed for hoses that are moving around as much as the hose does at the top of a pole. Even though the hose is small, gravity is still pulling it down from the brush and the swing from working the brush does not help it much either. This can cause leaks if the QC is not the correct size. If it were me, what I would do is replace the Y splitter quick connect with a normal T fitting and just use 1 straight through QC about 1 ft down from the brush. A QC Y or T fitting has 3 points of possible failure, where as a straight through only has 2.

In a nutshell, yes

Only difference is I use brass barbs, Do the zip ties apply enough pressure to keep the hoses together in case of a pressure surge?

Yes once you have the zip tie on it not going to come off under pressure.</SPAN>

To put on tight, use a pair of pliers to pull the zip tie.</SPAN>

Use small width ties.</SPAN>

If you have to take the zip tie off cut it with Standley blade.</SPAN>

Regarding these quick connects. I use the John Guest originals rated for 200 psi fluid. The size is crucial. They come out in metric and imperial and need to be matched with the appropriate metric or imperial hose. Also if you’re using silicon hose at the brush end they are less than successful. Hard PP Hose of the appropriate OD is the key…Trust this helps. Obviously if you don’t need to swap your brushes or accessories out then barbs are the more permanent solution.

The best quick connect fittings for wfp are John Quest. They will not rust from pure water because they are all plastic. We carry 5/16 outside diameter which is very hard to find locally. For 3/8 outside diameter or larger you can find them at Murlock online.
