Lets Reach out...Test video # 3

Reaching out is another process to cleaning windows, learning how is an advanced system from the basic understanding to inside cleaning to outside cleaning which is a step up !

You’ll save yourself from doing ladder work, as on this building which is 22 stories I’m able to do it all from the inside except for 4 set of palladiums !

Basically it just work in the reverse and acquiring the muscle memory…If I’m able to reach out without excessive time and work and safety I’ll do it

Double-D

I do that! I also have a method I call the shuffle for cleaning hard to reach, non-tilt double hungs as well.

Basically goes like this

Reach out clean the outer pane
Move the outer pane to the bottom of the frame
Slide the inner pane 2/3 of the way up
Reach out and clean the top half of the inner pane
Slide the outer pane back up
Reach out and clean the bottom half of the inner pane

Works great in a pinch:)

Hey Chris…

The Shuffle eh…Yeah I’ll do a job like that tomorrow, it makes things go faster and with less effort!

I’m going to call you the Shuffler !

Dange

I have a group of 15 townhomes I do like that kind of. They are all sliders so i remove the slisind pain from the track and set it on a towel to clean the outside of it and then the fixed pain I just reach out to clean it. each of the townhomes is seperated by six foot fence with no gates and they are 3 stories so its really slow to move the 32ft ladder around the backsides of these… using the reach out method saves us about 30mi per unit…so we can do a unit in 45 min instead of 1:15…

Our Federal building in Richland is about 90’ high and 7 or 8 stories. To clean the outside, they just spin the windows in, somehow. I haven’t seen it, the guard told me that. Must be easy, huh?

Keep up the good videos, Dange, I’m enjoying them!

I’m glad you stuck it out, I swear you get better with every post…
Don’t get rid of that Ninja, I’ll trade you something for it
I like mine, but I’m not a Son of Ettore <grin>!

How does your insurance company feel about you doing this method? I usually refuse to do the exterior side of balcony railing glass on highrise condos because I’m pretty sure my insurance company wouldn’t take too kindly to hearing that I dropped a squeegee or strip washer 30 floors and clocked somebody.

Why not just put a safety lanyard on your squeegee in case you drop it?

Dr. Dangerous had a lanyard I noticed. I’ll do the reach-out and shuffle now and again too.

Hey Dan,

I do have a wrist lanyard on my swab and the squeegee…Using one realling is SOP working Hi-Rise especially over a street.

Even when doing chair or stage work…you really need to always be working safe, tools need to be tied off ! For me here a wrist lanyard in works when I put my arm out the window…

yup, the shuffle I have used it but never named it

i suppose it took you a while to get used to thinking in reverse Dange . here, theres only one house where i reach out ,a 3 storey job that i cant get a ladder near and im slowly getting used to it.

by the way, in the main, which way do the house windows open in the States? here in England they open Outwards . in Eastern Europe (Poland,Lithuania etc )they all open Inwards ,which explains why window cleaners on ladders are very rare there .

Hey Jonny…

Actually it really didn’t take that long, once I learn to clean in a standard process ! All I needed to do was just reverse the process.

I’m an ambidextrous w/c and left hander who bats right handed and throws the ball left handed and kick the soccer ball right footed so I’m able to utilize both sides of my brain when it comes to certain functions

When it comes to w/c I’m pretty much totally right and left handed !

Here in the US there is every sort of window, double hung, Slider windows next to a fix pane, french windows that open out and in, bays with a fix pane and a crank out on one side or both, fix pane only, windows that pivot in .

Here there is a lot of problem solving and access is one of the biggest problems in window cleaning.

Please guys - get yourself a Wagtail flipper or swoop. You’ll only put your hand out that window once.

I’m diggin’ the videos, Dave! Your pleasant demeanor is contagious!

We seem to have a lot of the same habits/techniques/styles… but you actually have a name for them.
(Hope you don’t mind if I steal a few)

Keep ‘showin the range,’ Dange!

Thank J-ster…

I always felt that you and I were of the same school…“Sons of Ettore” Eh !

I really appreciate your perspective of me, I’m always ready to do my share
and keep things square ! Take care J-ster…

Your Friend / Dange-ster

On those paticular windows Karl I needs it to be a 0-degree handle and having a swivel handle / unger
0-degree works well because I making straight pulls which is much more efficient on these windows.

Trying to snake, fan, swirl on these reach outs isn’t as effective on these window as it is on other reach outs. Here I’m just able to only reach out my arm and not lean out past my shoulder. So as you can see by the video two straight pulls is much quicker then snaking.

Now if wagtail had a 0-zero degree I’d take a look at it to see if it will work, have you ever seen one ?

I used to use the unger visa versa for a while on these but I’m able to get a more finite squeegee pull with a just a standard 0-dgree squeegee… now if I could fine a 0-degree wagtail fipper or swoop I’d give it a look see, that’s just my nature as a window cleaner.

You bring up an excellent point, Mark, regarding insurance coverage.

What do insurance companies consider when one is cleaning exterior from the interior. Many WC’ers have coverage to three stories, for example…

Perk, Your welcome…

Here’s a quick tip for you…Be safe and always think ahead before you take steps that can put you at risk !

Check, double check then check again !

You can straight pull & fan with the Wagtail flipper with experience. The Wagtail angle adapter will also help you with height & 0º.
