Lettering on windows

There are a lot of storefronts with vinyl lettering on them around here. There are also a few with painted lettering and even some with etched windows.
What’s the best way to deal with the different lettering types without damaging them?

There are some good threads in regards to the questions your asking, try the search button it will lead you to your answers.

I found some answers since posting the question but nearly all deal with removing lettering. There are several good suggestions for dealing with painted lettering, a little regarding cleaning around vinyl lettering, and nothing about etched lettering.
What I mostly want to know is the best way to deal with vinyl lettering. Is it practical to just clean the glass like the lettering isn’t there and then detail it with a towel? Would that damage the squeegee rubber and/or the lettering?

Over time it does wear the rubber but you have to do a lot of glass to see that affect.
Just watch the edges of the letter if they are starting to peel up from the corners or edges let the shop owners know.

Clean as normal, and detail after. Old vinyl or crappy vinyl will start to peel up or break down eventually. Just a gentle detailing over the letters is fine.

Agreed. I even move onto another window while it dries a bit. This saves on towels. Also, if you use Ecover you can get away with a swipe or two. It dries almost completely clear.

Vinyl lettering - after squeegee wipe with dry cloth
Painted - most outside painted signs are oil based. Use non abrasive side of scrubber. Scrub lightly in one direction. Not back and forth. Actually slide scrubber without using force.
Etched with acid - don’t scrape! Regular cleaning method or use non scratch pad.

Painted windows… just takes a VERY soft touch HOW EVER inform your customer that the PAINT will wear off after a while.
VYNIL LETTERING:
Clean Window
Start at the Bottom of the letters/Vynil and detail,
Working your way UP to the top of the lettering.
(remember water rolls down hill…)
Some lettering HOLDS onto water, while others allmost come dry from squeegeing.
Once you know your stores you will know your plan of attack.
