So bidding on a 4 story condo building, majority of the windows are double hung and can be cleaned from inside… however they have several common windows that are fixed and need to be cleaned from the outside 3 on the 4th floor and 4 on the third floor…
I am looking at using my WFP to clean them but unfortunately right now all I have is the unger Nlight aluminum pole…
so heres my dilema - I am not in a position just yet to purchase a $2,000.00 pole to clean 7 windows.
i see unger has 10’ aluminum extensions… do you think i could make it work??? I understand they wont look great, and Ill probably kill myself lifting that pole but its really only 3 windows that need it so if it takes me a lot longer i really dont care…
i have cleaned 3rd floor windows before by standing on a 14 foot a frame and using my aluminum pole… wasnt fun but it got the job done… I just don’t do enough 3rd and 4th story work right now to justify buying a $2000 dollar pole…
Have you looked into the Brodex 36’ Aluminum Pole? It’s only 180 bucks and comes with sill brush, tubing and angle adapter. WRC is sold out right now but I’m sure they are getting more in soon. Food for though.
I’m not to big on using the tilt in window cleaning method myself. Customers tell me all the time that their windows tilt in and I always tell them I like to do them from the outside.
yes we will be cleaning the majority of the 3rd and fourth floor windows from the inside… just easier IMO that high up, 1st and second floor will be cleaned from the outside…
however my dilema is that there are 3 fixed windows on the 4th floor and 4 on the 3rd ( in common areas…) that we cannot clean from the inside… so I must WFP or set up the big ass ladder…
have you used the brodex? I already have the unger 20’ aluminum and I love it… would basically be the same as adding the 10 foot sections no?
I would be interested in getting the brodex, would be nice to have a backup pole if I ever need it…
Haven’t used it yet. As a matter of fact its coming today by UPS (thanks Alex) and I’ll be putting it through its paces tomorrow. It’s going to be a good day.
Invest in a couple Nlite 11’ Carbon or Hi Modulus extensions. They’ll work and you’ll catch up in the near future by purchasing one of the Nlite master poles to match.
Your ‘dilemma’ is gonna be you getting those folks to let you inside. Some won’t be home, some will refuse entry, some will be home but won’t answer the door. All the notifications and requests in the world are not going to change that.
I know its hard to look through the $$$, but your asking for a disaster. Obtain the right equipment and try again…tbh
contract states we get paid regardless - so in all honesty I hope they arent home!!! $$$ it would be a very easy day for me… most of the condos are rentals and property manager will be on site with the keys - we have done work before with this management company, and have never had an issue, this is not our first rodeo… just first time doing a 4 story one…
I have a 32ft ionic grafter that’s priced pretty good as well around 350.00 I think.
to be honest when I bid on a job where i will need specialized tools i just take the hit and buy them, i always use them again and make my money back with time and I have found there is nothing worse than turning up to a job optimistic that things will work out with out the tools needed, that optimism turns into plain frustration very quickly.
case in point - I had to a buy werner 6 ft stand off recently for a big residential job which cost me 180.00 but i finished a 625.00 job in a day and a bit. Without that stand off i would of been fooling around with poles for days trying to catch floor to ceiling windows that went up 25 ft inside. I hated spending a third of my money on the stand off, but I would off been miserable for the whole job if i hadn’t, and I wouldnt of made good money hitting the whole inside with poles for 2 or 3 days!
I called WCR and picked Alex’s brain for a bit, I decided to do exactly what you recommended and ordered 2 unger N lite aluminum extensions…
at this point I just can’t justify the money for 3 lousy windows… it may take me a little longer due to the weight but hey whatever… I will definitely be purchasing a big Carbon fiber pole in the spring - I have always turned down a lot of higher work due to this, only reason I felt pressured to take this job is the relationship I have with this paticular property manager… they send us a ton of work…
