Well at least the guy in the ad has great form.

I called 2 companies out about those neck talking deals. The one guy almost burst to tears going on about no work & no oil in his house. I told him, prices like that will put you in the streets, & a couple 4 letter words.
He text my phone an hour later…I pray for you…hi-oooo
I was one those guys when I first started. I ran into a 40+ year wc business owner in the mall. I asked him his prices, he said you first & laughed hard @ them. He told me his & said start there these days and go up. He saved me a lot of $$$.

there’s another company called justin time, in his same area
same prices maybe he used to work for them and decided to copy.

Its funny cause 4k square foot commands $380.00-$600.00 depending on window type and total stories all day long. They won’t last too long

they give a link to check his business license. it says he has 0 employees. so its just him i guess. working all day for $80. sucks to be him

These kind of guys are in every state and every city. They come and go because they think that super low prices will help them build a client list that will support them as they grow.

Its a flawed concept from the start and it’s best to ignore their marketing because it will just serve to irritate and frustrate you.

They offer these rates for one of two reasons:

 1. Nothing they have tried has worked and/or…
 2. They are trying to win by volume over margin

Cheap prices are a red herring. One thinks that
everyone will buy if cheap enough- that is false.

Too cheap activates people’s spidey sense that
something does now seem right. He likely gets
very few calls… the few he does get will destroy
him and rob him of his drive and then, morals.

Exactly! Sorry you have to deal with this stuff Brian! But to be honest, my clients would be scared to have someone that cheap in their houses. I am sure you see the same bro
Thanks for sharing that, I really would have had trouble believing those were really advertised prices :0

He won’t be in business long, no way!

Funny thing Paul,

their spidey sense is activated, they may call others but then use these as the benchmark to tell you “wow, you’re twice as much”

you hold your ground, but still don’t get the job

so, tough marketing, how to create stronger draw for a sustainable price, not even a higher 600hr price, JUST sustainable business pricing vs half pricers

so many times, and I have been trying an awful lot over the last 5 years, they will still tell you no.

Some feel there is a lack of respect to this industry and there isn’t much hope (always being compared to the $10 hr maid)
Paul McQuillan

problem is Jeremiah, that they are in business a long time:

Justin Time Services

20 years experience, couple big trucks, etc, couple kids working out of cars with magnetic signs

same thing $159 for a 4000 sft home

same price, same ad since 2004!!

it should at least be adjusted for inflation and be $199 by now, so never a price change

lots of complainers, lots of dissatisfaction, still never translates into anything from shopper’s pocketbooks

window cleaning is his loss leader to get in the door to do their tile, carpet, grout, dryer vent , driveway etc etc

still only the owner and a couple guys and wife working the office,

they gotta be killing themselves for a couple bucks

also lots of hidden fees, in the end he’s not too far off, but people don’t know that until he shows up and this is extra, that’s extra etc etc

yet, he doesn’t rule the valley necessarily, he doesn’t have 50 guys at those ridiculous prices, isn’t that interesting??

but, customer’s use his pricing as a benchmark, that’s the infectious virus that permeates
(remember 20 years experience, expert service, yada yada yada - it sticks in people’s minds as a benchmark and insured licensed, booties and all that other rhetoric)

so a new sticky thing is required which is expensive to permeate the market, but the strategy is out there, just not refined yet

but if it isnt them, it’s someone else

Me and Brian are 60 miles apart and have the same issues with similar models from many

what’s needed is an Antimodel!!

I just can’t see how a long timer is happy bustin a hump for diddlysquat
I’d like to analyze his business under the simple numbers microscope and see just how flawed it is
you know the wife is working for free
yet people label themselves as making money, well yeah, if free labor is involved

We’ve ended up just not giving lowballers any thought. Its not worth worrying about losing business to them. They’ll spend all day making their $100 while we’re making that in an hour! You cant run a real business on those prices and you wont do a good job if youre not making decent money. Those customers that hire solely on price are not the customers we want either. I think everyone should raise their prices and then we’d all make more money!

so back to spidey sense,

the so cal spidey sense is $150 for a 4k home is “normal”, the benchmark, so they’re thinking call around and see how much better you can get for $200

“wow, you want $400? that’s more than double my other quote”

hear it day in and day out, eh Brian C?

yeah but when you get nice custom home after nice custom home giving you the same garbage, despite numerous efforts and angles, it really starts to grate on a person

but like I said, if it wasn’t A or B ridiculous lowballer, it’d just be a vacuum for another, so a new so cal strategy is in order

I am going to step out of the box and look at it from the stand point of the employees.

I FEFUSE to pay anyone that works with me low wages and that’s all you can afford with bottom dollar prices. Either you are killing yourself or you are paying workers a poor wage. That is something I want no part of and our (I mean mine and yours) employees deserve better.

Just a quick example to touch on what some have already said. It’s not window related but the principle is the same.

My folks just had their garage floor done. My father had 3 different people come out to give him an estimate and their thoughts on what should be done (there was a small crack in the floor and some other questions he had). The estimates ranged from $1,500 to $2,200. He ended up choosing the person that gave him the most expensive estimate. He told me he chose the person/business he did because he seemed much more reputable, trustworthy and knowledgeable.

I was hoping for more additions to the hall of fame… Or rather shame

Bottom line he’s going after wal-mart shoppers, I disagree with Paul I’m sure he’s real busy with a lot of cash coming but little to show for it.

Those prices “condition” the market.

Did a job this week for $75 dollars more than the last guy, asked why she didn’t use him? She couldn’t contact him again.

Knuckle dragging lowball window cleaners can serve Walmart shoppers I’m after Nordstrom.
